dvanacker's 200g SPS tank......

Absolutely gorgeous SPS reef mate. Can i ask about the below colony as i have the same and it's a very common acro for sale in LFS's here. Was it sold as being from Aus ? You have set the bar extremely high for all of us btw lol. :)

Yes....I bought that one as a small aussie wild.....half of it RTNd so it ended up as the size of a large frag. Its been about 2 yrs or more to get to that size.

Darryl, first of all, congratulations on TOTM! Well deserved!

Second, well, it´s the continuation of the first one because you really have done a great job in collecting such amazing pieces! As I was commenting in a thread of a fellow canadian reeefer of yours, you seem to have quiete an amazing array of beautiful corals at your disposal over the LFS´s. Is this correct?

Two other beautiful reefs that comes to mind when one talks of canadian saltwater tanks are 250G´s and Greg´s ( Oldude) tanks.

Impressive stuff over the northwestern hemisphere and I´m not just talking about the Nature landscape. Well done!

Yes 90degree optics but the leds are really just supplemental to the MH.

I am thinking about doing the same thing. I have 3x400w 20k radiums with vho super atinics and want to add some royal blue led to add more color and pop. How high off of the water are your LEDs and where did you get 90 degree optics? I have only seen 80 degree. Thanks-Kyle-

thanks guys...

Oh....ya sorry they are 80degree optics.

I changed my MH bulbs about a week or two ago and the tank was looking pretty good after getting a small color bump. This kinda gave me the urge to take some pictures so I will post those up soon. thanks for following.

Daryll,

Do you raise the lights or change the photo period when you do a bulb change?.
Which bulbs are you running now?

Thanks
Mo

I do....I can't raise the lights but I cut the photoperiod to 5hrs from 8hrs on the metal halide and every month or two I bump it up an hour till I reach 8hrs again.

Looking good, strawberry shortcake appears to be taking off. My northern delight frag is starting to get those nice glowing teal tips that yours has. This reminds me that I am almost due for a bulb change as well.

Are your MH bulbs single/mogul or double ended? Are the ballasts M80 or electronic? I know XM makes both for the bulbs, just curious. Back quite a few pages I saw a FTS and you said it's a daylight shot. Does that mean just the MH without the VHO and LED blues? Thanks for taking the time to write up how everything is set up. Great resource.

Thanks. The bulbs are 20k XM SE 400watt on M59 magnetic ballasts. An M80 is a 250hqi ballast that drives the bulb to about 280watts if memory serves me. Its what people like to use with a 250w SE radium bulb.

And some more pics....spacing them out, more to come.

I never get bored of looking at your corals, I almost go into a sps induced trance hypnotised by the awesomeness! :D

More pictures please! More! :)

How have you managed to keep aefw out of your system, what techniques did you use?

Tony

Darryl,

I love that Jedi Mind Trick. I have never seen such a neat rim colour with this one before. Nicely done.

:)
I believe you are thinking of another similar monti....this one is supposed to be an undata. I do have a similar one that is confusa in the same colour pattern but not quite as vibrant.

I believe the "force" is strong with him, nice work jedi!

:strooper:
These are not the frags your looking for.......

Thanks Tony. I think maybe the key has been that it has been years since I added any wild or maricultured sps. On the rare occasion a frag gets added to my system, besides the fact that I think frags are far less likely to have AEFW, it gets the coralrx treatment and inspection.

Co-incidence but someone recently thought they saw AEFW bit marks on a frag they picked up from me. I told him to dip and inspect and as I thought he did not find any AEFW or eggs. All the corals in my tanks are closely monitored as you can imagine and no issues at all. Personally I think suspicious marks happen sometimes and people jump the gun. if you have them, they obviously can be a problem but my opinion is that when a tank isnt doing well and you are searching for a reason AEFW is sometimes the easy answer for people. Especially newer reefers who maybe dont know exactly what to look for.
