dvanacker's 200g SPS tank......

what an amazing tank. it is very inspiring, i hope you continue to have success and share it with us.

was there ever a point where you struggled to get color / general health out of SPS? if so, what was the point that turned it around?

what would you say is the primary driver of the great colors in your corals? thanks.

Thanks....I love this question. The answer is yes.....like most people I've had my ups and downs. This tank has been mostly a success but prior tanks were hit and miss. I always had proper flow and lighting but I never could get the proper nutrient level. I think identifying the proper nutrient level in the aquarium is the hardest part and I believe in feeding a decent amount but also in heavy export with the use of a big skimmer, regular water change routine and I also use bio-pellets as an additional biological means. I know in past tanks I either was too nutrient poor or had excess nutrients that hindered coral color and growth. Experience helps me observe and monitor coral health and adjust the nutrient import/export if need be......it is a true balancing act but once you get a good routine that your tank responds too it becomes pretty easy.

Oh and a bit of luck never hurts either.......knock on wood.

i just spent the better part of an hour reading this thread your tank is amazing. i am soon starting a 200 gallon with very similar dimensions you are a big inspiration. great job and keep up the great pics.

Love your selection of high-quality corals. I'd wish we had some of these in Norway:rolleyes: Nice clean setup. Congrats:rollface:

Hi dvanacker,

+1 So true, takes time to find that perfect balance, which you have certainly achieved!

Thanks again for the kind words....

About a month or so ago I aquired a SSC....it didnt have much color when I bought it so I havent photographed it till now. Its color'd up pretty good. Its in my small frag tank for now but will soon be bumped up to the big leagues (display).

I also purchased this other coral from aussie.....it may be another a.sarmentosa or possibly a.florida...either way I like it.

the 2nd one looks like a sarmentosa to me :)

Both beautiful corals... Loving the color on the SSC. Mine is finally taking off! I think I need a water sample from you tank so that I can clone it. LOL!
