I have a smallish tank and in the feature I want a nem. (its a 46 gallon set up for about 7-8 months)I have done lots of research on btas but I dont like that they roam a lot. are there any other good nems that stay small and good for the beginner? thanks.

I have a mini max carpet anemone. It only gets about 3inches and its not that dificult to take care of in my opinion.

Most BTA's don't roam once they've found a place they like. I have three that have not move an inch from where they were placed in my current tank over a year ago. Don't sweat it, just be prepared to move corals until they settle into a place they like. Oh, and stick with a BTA. Very easy to care for and very low maintenance. Basically I do nothing, and I feed them when I think about it...about once a month, if that.

Do you have a sand bed?
If no sand bed then only smallish clown fish hosting anemone is BTA. With a sand bed, you can ger a H. malu. They should do well in a 46 g tank. Here are the pictures of my two spawning Malu. Unfortunalty I lost the purple one when my tank crack over the weekend several months ago (my office tank)

Green is the male put out sperm. Purple is the female

Now I only have the male, in another tank, a 58 g reeftank with my Magnifica

Also a Malu keeper/fan.
Perfect size for hosting my clowns, yet doesn't overtake tank like some other nems I've had.

I am looking for a new Purple Malu. If I see one healthy locally, I will buy it regardless of color. I am trying to get another pair going. I would be nice to get them to bree. I think with this species and with Gigantea, it is do-able since they will release live young anemone larvae.

I just do a water change. No problem what so ever, not even a small algae bloom. These anemones are small and only the male released sperms. They spawn in the late afternoon so you will see when they spawn.

What about getting a Rock flower Anemone? These are pretty cool and easy to look after which makes them great for beginners. However I must warn you that these are not histing anemones.

All these are Rock Flower Anemones. I have 4 in my tank :-)
