Tank looks great Ed. With your attention to detail I think the canopy is a must. It would give to much of the industrial look with out I think. That and you might go blind by it .hahahahah

True - I don't mind the industrial look actually but I think the glare from the 8 x T5 will kill me!! :D

yeah sometimes industrial goes with the more modern but like you said you said better than going blind...hahha

Congratulations on getting your tank and sump so quickly. It looks great; thank you for those close ups.

I really like that you got two weirs so you can swap them out as needed. You might consider getting an acrylic sleeve to put around the glass overflow box so you don't have to see the plumbing at all, keeping the focus on the livestock.

That sump was tight in that stand. I guess measuring in millimeters does have its perks.

I was going for BB! :)

Great - makes maintainability so much easier... as this is a shallow tank, I think a SB will make it look more natural as I planned to have a wide open sand area :p

However, if the flow gives my sand a sand storm, then I might re consider?? :rolleye1:

Thanks Marc - was reading your thread. Look like you had another fun week!! :D

Thanks for your comments on the wier and the acrylic sleeve. Will be planning to placed black egg crate surrounding the whole overflow and scape and cover the whole overflow so might not need the sleeve but if needed, I can always add on at a later stage. (that's the plan anyway so will see how the scape goes) :rolleye1:

Yup, the sump is really tight.... :p not sure if I will measure it to the millimeter next time

OMG... I just read your previous build and now this one. I think I'm gonna get fired from work. Oh well, great build so far and good luck.;)

Re: T5 TUBES

Re: T5 TUBES

Great build Ed! I'm actually in HK right now for a vacation. Am looking for ATI & KZ bulbs, where did your friend buy them? In Tung Choi Street? Which shop?

Thanks ;)

Getting closer as today my T5 tubes arrived. I have to get someone to hand carry them over from HK for me!! God bless those wonderful friends of mine…!!

These are the tubes combos I will be using, a mixture of ATI/ KZ …

T5Lights.jpg

I got 2 additional KZ T5 Coral Light New Generation14K tubes and might swap out one or both the ATI Blue+ should the overall colors become too blue.

Anyway this is my revised lighting diagram with the new dimension of the tank…..

ReefCrestLightingFrame-RevisedII.png

Funny how things work out as now I can use all the T5 reflectors I previously bought for my 295-g tank - talk about good fungshui !!

:D

Hi Leopard Man - you can go to a shop called Pro Coral along that street!! It's located on the 3rd floor but you can see the signage from the street level. He also carries an amazing tons of stuff... :p

Good luck and enjoy shopping in Tung Choi. I always enjoy that street!!

PLUMMER AT WORK

PLUMMER AT WORK

Now that my stand, tank and lighting frame is in place, guess it’s about time I move my lazy bag of bones and get the plumbing going…..

GOD, I hate plumbing!!

To start off, some preparation work….

DisplayTankPlumbing01.jpg

and then testing out the bulk head to make sure it fits…

DisplayTankPlumbing02.jpg

As this time it has a lot more plumbing compare to my old, tank, I decided to color code em PVC pipes so it’s easier to identified:

YELLOW â€"œ Return from main tank to Sump/ Skimmer
BRONZE â€"œ Return from sump to Chiller
GREEN â€"œ Return from chiller to main tank
BLUE â€"œ Return from CL hammerhead pump to main tank
RED â€"œ Return from main tank to CL hammerhead pump

And the complete set-up after a few days of getting high sniffing on PVC glue and spray paint….

Plumbing04.jpg

Plumbing05.jpg

Plumbing06.jpg

Overall I’m quite please with the result but does give me a bad migraine for a couple of days ……

MORE PLUMBING…!

MORE PLUMBING…!

And more pictures of all plumbing hook up….let’s see where shall we start off from??

OK…maybe from the close loop:

Plumbing18.jpg

First the CL pump - The Hammerhead is hook up with a TUBV for input/output for easy servicing…

Plumbing08.jpg

A close up…

Plumbing09.jpg

Plumbing17.jpg

The output of the hammerhead is connected to a OM -4way. A TUBV is also used for each output of the OM for easy servicing of the OM.

You can see the space is really tight and I’ve to used a lot of 90 degree to keep the plumbing away from obstructing me. Good thing CL cause min head loss….

Plumbing20.jpg

Two of the OM output is connected to the rear of the tank and the other two is connected to the front of the tank.

Plumbing10.jpg

I drilled 3 x 60mm holes along the wooden divider just enough for the pipes and True Unions to go through

Plumbing07.jpg

On the other side of the wooden divider, I used True Unions so this enables me to dismantle the piping.

I want to see this thing full of saltwater by this weekend, Sir. Maybe you can beat Steve and Mr. Casas, lol. That looks outstanding so far, Ed. I think Im going to like this more than your 295. Less is more, in this case.

Ed, Nice plumbing on the OM 4-way! Maybe we can get some ideas from you! We are plumbing Tim's in less than 2 weeks now!

I think they are way ahead of me :D

Glad you like this more than the 295 :p Was not sure initially as the 295 was a whooper and not an easy one to beat

Oooooh I really like the color coded thing! Looks sweet and I suprised the PVC painted so easily.
Cheers,
Erik

PVC paints easily..... u just have to spray them about 6-8" away to get that even spray along the pipes... :D

So I notice - Tim's tank is coming along great. LOVE the Red/ White theme you got running there....!!

Let me know what questions you have!! However, with you so close to Paul - OM, I think he can give you the best ideas...
