Nice job ED! Love the aquascape man! That open desert in the center is nice! Its always looks so much better when water is in.

We are plumbing Tim's on Saturday. You and Tim have put the heat on me now to get mine set up! Look what you have done!
Are you going to start a new build thread for your tank?? Getting a little confusing in Tim's thread now with sometimes 'SuperR' responding and sometimes 'SuperT' responding??

So what are you planning for livestock? have you decided on any Tangs?

Plenty of gobies and anthias at this moment and maybe 2-3 Tangs.... :D

apogon_leptacanthus.jpg

Threadfin cardinalfish
Scientific name : Apogon leptacanthus

A quite small (maximum length: 6,0 cm) fish, with a transparent-yellow base color; shows three bright blue vertical bands, on its sides, from the operculum to the last ray of the first dorsal fin.
It forms dense aggregations, even with fish of different species, above mounds of branching corals in sheltered bays and lagoons, even in turbid waters. Nocturnal.

Habitat: Back reef

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific, Red sea

Sheet author: MICHAEL TANGHERLINI

If the´re from Indo-West Pacific, maybe you could find them at another saler, i think it´s worth the effort, the´re just beautyful!

Fully agree - they are BEAUTIFUL

Will not give up trying to get em' - can you imagine a school of 20 of em' in this shallow reef??? :eek2:

Question for you Ed. How far down is the water line from the glass line?

About 5cm from waterline to glass line. Wanted to bring it up to 3cm but was too chicken too!! :p

Yes, I have been doing his build with him from the start. So when I am at his place I sometimes take pics and respond to the thread.

Yes, I have been helping his build with him from the start. So when I am at his place I sometimes take pics and respond to the thread. He will also be helping me.

But I am going to be starting my 360 gallon system build when done with Tim's.

EQUIPMENTS INSTALLED

EQUIPMENTS INSTALLED

Took a couple of days off and started to installed all my equipments this morning and then I realize I screw up on the cabinet overall height…

You see, all the time my main focus was to ensure the height inside the stand can accommodate my equipments (skimmer/ zeo reactor/ Ca Rx, plumbing) and the additional water from the main display when power off but I completely forgotten about the height between the doorframe and my sump tank… :worried:

No matter how details your plan is, there is bound to be something you’ve not thought off…. I can kick myself for this!!

SumpTankArrived15.jpg

You can see from the picture, I do not have much headroom space left between the top of the sump and my doorframe to fit through my skimmer to allowed it to go inside the sump?? Good thing my Zeo reactor can still fit through that narrow gap, but only barely…

The tight opening space there is only 25cm and the body of my skimmer with the riser tube is at least 35cm??

So the option at that time seem to be running my skimmer outside the tank, which I really really want to avoid as it will spoiled the whole clean look concept :sad2:

So what can I do???? what can I do???? what can I do????

i hate to say it.....pull your sump out and put the skimmer in, then load the sump back in? :(

This is an option as long as you can remove the skimmer cup and are ok not cleaning the body of the skimmer? Definitely not ideal...

A couple options:

(1) Switch skimmers...an ATB Medium would probably fit and I think it is almost exactly 25 cm at the base, and would be perfect for your water volume.

(2) Build an external cabinet matching the stand to house the skimmer...I'd personally do option 1 because I think it would be easier and cleaner, but I'm guessing whatever your solution is will wow us as this whole build has :)

Wine is the cause and solution to all of life's problems….

Wine is the cause and solution to all of life's problems….

Wine is the cause and solution to all of life's problems….

OK, after about 2 hours of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to open up a bottle of wine to rejoice my achievements so far (hey we all need a pat on our shoulder sometimes) and beginning to accept the fact that the skimmer is not going into that sump but instead that large space in the sump can be used to acclimatize new fishes, corals, etc….. (you know, the usual stuff to make yourself feel better for your stupidity)

And then right as I was starting on my 2nd bottle of wine, a brilliant idea creep in…

“I can drain out the sump tank and remove the plumbing inside and slide out my sump tank again to an angle large enough to give me enough space for my skimmer to fit in…”

YES …everything was suddenly so clear to me and my hands was almost simultaneously pick up my hand phone to call few friends over….!!

After about 1 hour, my doorbell started ringing (no, I didn’t tell them the reason I ask them to come) and in within 2 hours amongst the 4 of us, we manage to remove the plumbing, empty the sump tank, slide out the sump to an angle,

and voila…..

SkimmerinPosition01.jpg

SkimmerinPosition02.jpg

You can still see the water in between the baffles

Whew….. good thing both my skimmer pumps are outside the skimmer body so I can still easily remove them for cleaning and maintenances. I don’t think I will ever need to remove the body of the skimmer out â€"œ ever!!

Once the skimmer is in, we slowly re-fixed back all the plumbing. Good thing all my plumbing is with unions as this makes my job much easier….

The rest of the equipments hook-up is a breeze after that!!

:D

Should have check my thread earlier and save me a bottle of wine :D Funny how something so simple and yet we didn't think if it??

Ed skim wet or replace your skimmer to those that can fully dissembled such as the new BK cone

Was looking at that option too but even those fully dissemble skimmer still have the largest piece - the round diameter of the skimmer body which won't fit through that tight opening

Thanks mcliffy2 - I was actually leaning towards option 2 and was running in my head different cabinet design to hide the skimmer :D

Didn't check out ATB Medium thou'...

Thank god the skimmer cup still can be removed and my Deltec AP720 skimmer pump is on the external so that does make removal of skimmer pumps for maintainability much easier...

"What happen?? Hope your computer is fix now!! " Ed Reef

Well, no actually. About two days before my tank was delivered my computer totally fried. My husband is IT and he couldn't fix it, so we had to run out and buy another. :( But, on the plus side, the new one is much nicer then the old one was. (On the minus side, have to wait to buy rocks, etc, for my new tank.)

Calcium Reactor:

CaRx.jpg

CaRxinAction.jpg

Not much space left for my CO2 cylinder (man….space is really tight) so I made 2 nylon strap belt to secure the cylinder to the iron support…

CO2Strap.jpg

I did not hook up my CO2 to my Ca Rx at this moment until I start adding corals.

I also silicon a piece of square glass with a pre-drill hole to hold my DYI PO4 reactor to handle the effluent output from the Ca Rx.

Not shown in the picture but I will used a bag to hold my media for easy exchange out !!

Zeovit Reactor:

Started running my Zeovit reactor today as well….

ZeovitReactor01.jpg

ZeovitReactor02.jpg

Nice to see how much less Zeolite I used now compare to my previous tank :rolleye1: I also use a tune-down Ehiem 1250 pump to fed the reactor with a 3 hours on/off cycle.

Tunze Multi Controller:

Next is my Tunze Multi Controller. I prefer to used the Tunze multi-controller for my streams as I find it easier to adjust rather than from Profilux controller.

TunzeMultiController-1.jpg

I’m planning to hide the light sensor on the multi-controller on top of my landscape island!

OK, been a very long and tiring day for me…. Going to hop into a hot shower and give myself a good soak and a good night sleep…

I see an ATB in your future, it would be a lot less work than a new cabinet and keep the area around your tank clear. And you could get it in red to match your stand, sweet! :)

Hey Ed.... Might be a little late, but would it help if you put that sump on some sort of rollers? I understand thatd it raise the sump up a little. This would allow you to remove the collection cup, and disconnect the plumbing, while sliding out the sump. Even if its a monthly chore, you could clean your skimmer, and siphon out your sump easily. Not sure how feasible that is, but its an idea.

Mike may be right.... An ATB that can be fully disassembled seems like it is convenient.
