Nice progress Ed. I'm amazed at how the sand doesn't move with the Streams so close to the bottom. What am I missing?

Joe explain it pretty accurately. Also the 203mm grain size sand does help :D

Spot on!! :D

Just finished reading all 24 pages, and I must say that this is a great tank. I will be jumping on board, and cant wait to see how it looks with the livestock.

By the way, have you finalized your list?

No problem - remember to let us know once you're ready to start your build thread :D

Great decision on the Powermodule!! Jane - aquamarine is a great person to work with!! Think of getting their grotech dosing system as well and go balling, if your tank is not too large!!

Thanks Ed. Your usage of the Tunze Deco Rock is tempting me to use one for my new setup. It's small, only 58G, 30Lx25Wx18H. Do you think a deco rock would be appropriate for my size of tank? Perhaps I can have the deco rock by itself and make it an island and point it slightly upwards too.

I will be using a Tunze 6100 on single controller only for flow, as well as my return pump of course.

Might get that grotech system and go balling as per your suggestion.

WELCOME TO MY BUILD THREAD kaspm :D

No finalized listing of fishes yet so the one I posted out will be my guide :rolleye1:

If you follow my previous build thread you will know I'm not very diligent in keeping to my fish guide...

Depend how you scape it but IMO for such a small tank, it will be difficult to hide the stream rocks as they are quite huge (even for my tank) :eek2:

Why not build a false wall and hide the stream 6100 behind (similar to my old tank)??

Also smaller tank is best to go balling as it's easier to control parameters.... I used balling in my old old 150-g tank in the past and simply LOVE IT but when I move to my 295-g, it got too big and too much work to keep making chemicals for dosing so I switch to a Ca Rx but if you ask me for my new tank now, I would seriously consider going back to balling in the future....

but have to start saving for a dosing machine first tho' :rolleye1: as I sold my old Grotech 3-way Dosing

:mixed:

Yes they do, but I'll be using a Tunze 6100, but I might sell it and downgrade to a Tunze 6055.

If u want to sell it, then buy Vortech MP40w instead as it has a very small profile in the tank and the flow is wider too.

For your tank side it will be perfect!! :D

I have a friend with similar tank width, which I design for her about 2 months back.

Let me see if I can get a picture of it and post here.... :)

THE PLAN……

THE PLAN……

Now that the auqascape is done, I can start to plan my corals. The below picture will give you a better idea of what I envision….

AquascapeLayoutPlan.png

Will try to keep the center as open as possible….!!

And some parameter on RBS for those who are interested….

• Temperature â€"œ 25.5 degree C (light on)
• Salinity Gravity â€"œ 35ppt (Calibrated refractometer - 53ms Pinpoint Solution)
• Ph â€"œ didn’t measure as my Ph probe is not hook up yet
• NO3 â€"œ 0.5 (Salifert Test kit)
• PO4 â€"œ 0.08 (D&D Test kit)
• dKH â€"œ 8 (API test kit)
• dKH â€"œ 8.5 (Elos test kit)
• Ca â€"œ 430 (Salifert test kit)
• Ca â€"œ 440 (Elos test kit)
• Mg â€"œ 1350 (Salifert test kit)
• Mg â€"œ 1350 (Elos test kit)
• Potassium â€"œ390 â€"œ 400 range (Kz Test kit)

A picture of my K test at the 400 mark…..

KTest01.jpg

The salt param seem to be spot on or close!! In fact a little higher than expected on Ca, Mg and dKH. This could be due to the slightly higher salinity (1.026 vs. 1.024) I’m keeping

Only thing is the PO4 seems high. Not sure if it’s from the salt itself or my LR but I guess in coming months this should come down!!

:p

Coral plans looks great Ed :D I'm also a fan of RB Salt, I'm not using anything else. The tank always has a good response after a water change and the parameters are just where I want them to be.
I think the PO4 is coming out of the liverock/sand/PVC etc. The salt itself is lower in PO4. But nothing to worry about, this are very good levels for a tank that's cycling.
Too bad I can't pay you a visit, I would love to see this tank in person to see what more can be done with this size tank. Any room left in the hotel this summer ;)?

Wow, now that is attention to detail, the plan looks great. You mentioned you planned some corals for the center, any thoughts on these? I'm a fan of keeping the sandbed clean as much as possible (I love acans and chalices but I don't think it looks good to have 30 frags of these all over the sandbed), but a few strategically-placed colorful fungias (plate or tongue corals) would be very cool, as these are corals that naturally appear on open sand flats in the wild.

Acans or ricordea on the rock you have to access (to clean the pumps) may be a better choice than SPS. They can blanket the area, and you can lift them out easily without damage.
