Ed,

I know i'ts too late now but IMO I dont think just dipping your corals for ten minutes is good enough. I've dipped my corals in everything you could think of and i still got AEFW's. Most of my corals were frags or very small colonies, but your putting wild colonies in your tank as well. I hope everything works out, but when i start a new tank someday exspecially like yours i will quarintine each peice of coral for at least a month; just to be sure. Good luck with the tank, great thread.

Thanks sdoggssf - agree, quarantine will be the absolute best solutions and dips does not guaranteed tank-free AEFW. Problem with AEFW is there is no actual prevention yet from what I know and all it takes is 1 egg to create a problem :eek2:

I've been skimming thru the thread. Great build!

Do you still use your modified wavebox extension? I think there was some confusion on what extension meant. I saw you received some Vortechs so maybe you don't use it anymore. I can explain it though if you want.

Hi mattvisocky2003 and welcome to my thread! Huge thread to be even skimming through...

Yes, I'm still using the modified wavebox extension. Basically what I did was to extend the height of the box so that it can suck in more water volume and therefore make a bigger wave  I'm using a combo of 2 x vortech, 2 x stream 6201 and 1 x wavebox for my tank with another 2 x Gen2 Stream 6105 on wait-list. :mixed:

Unfortunately as I'm 'curse' with pumps, 1 of my Tunze 6201 and my wavebox pumps broken down and has been send out for repairs and yet to be back yet!! Oh yeah, one of my vortech broke down as well :( so now I'm down to 1 x 6201, 1 x vortech, and 2 x local made-in-China Resun wavemaker pumps (as temporary back-up).

I order another vortech MP40w, which I intend to have as spare in case the other vortech or the stream decided to breakdown on me. :strooper:

Wow, Ed, that before and after shot is great. I think that one will be a great piece in a short time.

I agree that your dKH is a little high for Zeo. If you aren't seeing any problems, perhaps you should turn down your CA Rx and let the dKH fall on it's own.

Sorry, somehow I missed your post

Thanks Chrisrush - I'm hoping it to be a great center piece in the future....

Yeah, I have tone down my Ca Rx so let's hope the combi of WC and slower Ca Rx will bring things back on line for me.

Well, actually it makes no difference on how much bigger you make the box. The actual wavebox "extension" is really just another wavebox in sync with your current one. The problem with making a bigger box is that the pump can still only pump out a certain amount of water. So, in reality if all you do is make the box larger you will just end up with more water in the box when the stream shuts off. What you would really have to do is increase the pump size as well. i.e. a 6200 instead of 6100

In simple terms, if you have a 1 gallon box and find that pulsing the box at 1 sec intervals displaces 1 gallon in and out of the box and all you do is make the box 2 gallons... all you have done is end up with 1 gallon left instead of 0. If you increase the pump you can now pump 2 gallons in 1 sec... bigger wave.

Sorry - misunderstood you. Yes, I know what the different on the actual wavebox extension. To clarify, I'm only using one wavebox and no extension.

As for the black box, the only reason I raise it was the pre-drill hole on my overflow for the output of the box was too low so I need to 'raise' the box or the whole box will be submerge in the water. However, it does makes a difference to the wave as the box is able to hold more water and therefore the existing pump still good enough to move the wave around. Agree if I wanted an even bigger wave, I can always swap the pump to a 6200. :D

NEW MP40w ARRIVED

NEW MP40w ARRIVED

Just a quick update; my additional unit of MP40w has arrived from the US. However, still waiting for news on the damage unit, which I send out for repair… :( apparently it has been repaired but they are sorting out ‘who’s pay for what’ as my pump was bought in the US and not in HK :eek1:

I hook up the new Vortech unit and reposition the other Resun wavemaker at my wavebox position…

Meanwhile, I’m please with my 2 x Resun wavemaker as it’s holding the fort well in the absent of my Wavebox, stream 6201 and MP40w :p

Now, with my MP40w back in action, there is some serious flow in the tank :D Can’t imagine what’s like when my Stream 6201 and Wavebox I send out for repair is return and in addition the 2 new BAD *** Gen 2 Stream 6105 once arrived!!

Same time, testing my photoshooting skills so just to share some random close-up shots…

Nice Pics Ed!! I love all the sunset Milles, if that is indeed what they are. I see some subtle coloration differences but maybe they will become more pronounced. I now have 2 milles, a pink and a blue/purple...... but the blue one is turning more pink now...lol.

does your camera allow you to manually adjust the f/stop shutter speed and ISO? if so, you can get more of the coral in focus by using a smaller f/stop and decreasing the shuter speed or increasing the ISO (or both).

Ed, I think your photography skills are fine.
Just keep posting picture of you all your accomplishments!

Thanks Sandy - I'm a bad photographer but getting better with each shots. Still can't seem to get my WB correct. My shaking hands whenever I go on top of the tank with the camera does not help too....

It does but I got to learn how to do that!! I'm using a Nikon D70 with all the right lenses but don't know how to adjust anything in the manual. Guess I got to dust off the manual and start reading a little

That's the camera I'm thinking about buying. A club member lent me his to take a few shots with the stock lens, and so far I'm not in love. However, it does take good pictures of fish for some reason. Corals, not so much.

Thanks Marc - now I can blame it on the camera for my poor quality picture taking :D but somehow you're right....fish pictures seems to come out nice but having one hell of a problem with corals, especially close-ups!! :rolleye1:

The stock lens isn't good enough for close ups, and you have to be at least 12" away from the subject. You can zoom all the way in and still get it to focus, but not well enough. It seems you need a 105mm Macro lens to get better quality. The stock lens won't go below f/4.5, while I normally shoot in f/2.8 - some Macro lenses can go even lower.

I'm about to download today's pictures to see what came out.

I have the Nikon VR Macro 105mm lense and also the stock lenses which came along with the camera for general shots. Like I say I got the right equipment but just need to brush up on my skills
