BTW, Alan. Over in my build thread, I mention the fact that I "love your stand". I want to apologise for that. Obviously we're not talking about a "stand" here. This is turning out to be a work of art! :)

Yeah Tom, It look more like a feat of yankee workmanship than old house rebuilding. ;)

Tom
I'll have you know that I'm a card carrying member of The New Yankee Workshop Glee Club. :p

Thank you kindly -- my better half will not let me get away with anything less. :) When my wife and I were on vacation in Scotland some years back (yes they still allow Englishmen across the border but you have to swear that you have seen Braveheart at least three times  ) we stayed at a country hotel that had antique furniture in all the bedrooms. Our room had a beautiful dressing table (as well as a photograph of Sean Connery taken in the very room -- wife swoons :) ). My wife liked it so much (the dressing table :smokin: ) I took lots of photographs and built one for her when we got back. I'll see if I can dig up a photo of it and post it here.

I've been noticing a lot of weird things happening on the site lately.

Like WaterKeeper going AWOL for two weeks.

Please do, I'd like to see it.:)

That's not a stand or a cabinet for the aquarium ... IT'S FURNITURE!

I used to tell my golf mates, "If I just had the talent of Tiger Woods' small finger ... how good could I be!" Same, same!

Now Alan, tell me that you're going to put a stone top onto the furniture ;)

Tone

Bax - now the question is HOW were yuo able to delete the extra 2 posts? I tried - and the system would not let me delete...

O.k..........guess I have some learnin' to do ...The delete button on the edit/delete page is there just to make us feel better? Because it sure does not work!

That's what my wife expects -- furniture. No stone top but a great big glass reef. :p

Here you go Tom.

DRESSINGTABLE.jpg

Of course I had to buy a lathe and a duplicator to make the legs. :p As I always say, a good project is one that requires a new tool.:D

:eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

You, Sir, are a true craftsman! Astounded and impressed doesn't even begin to cover it! Beautiful, beautiful work!

Oh - I almost forgot - you are absolutely right. Every worthwhile project definitely requires a new tool ....

Thanks very much Tom -- it was a labor of love. Here's what I've been working on today (says he sitting in a comfy chair sipping a martini). :p

Wrapped the bottom with custom mahogany baseboard (actually 1x4 run through my router table with a round over bit). I need to run some more tomorrow to finish the ends (cunningly out of frame  )

Very nice Alan. My granfather was a Master Carpenter and was one of the main cabinet designers for Thomasville Furniture many years ago; your work reminds me of his.

Fond memories as a child wathcing my grandfather work on turning legs on his lathe and all the gluing and clamps and such. The smell of his shop is somehting that is engrained into my memory.

Thanks Matt. As I said before, my wife won't let me get away with less after I built the dressing table. I guess I spoiled her. When I was traveling a lot and accumulating a ton of FF miles (I had a million at one time on USAirways :eek2: ) we used to travel to England each year and of course it was First Class on British Airways (when USAirways had that alliance thing going) or a the very least Business Class. Now she won't go if it's in Economy (and if the truth were known neither would I). :D
