Now you know why the "Tang Police" demand a 5,000 gallon tanks for a tang. :D

5,000 GALLONS :eek2: :eek2: and I had planned on having around a dozen in mine. You won't rat on me will you Tom???? I promise to stop calling you a chemist**.

BTW does anyone know a good chiropractor?

** A chemist in England is equivalent to a pharmacist here.

Beautiful tank Alan. Who made it for you?

Paul
It was made by Aquarium Obsessed. I see you have a Miracles. A friend has a new tank from them and it's a good looking tank too.

Wow, I've been seeing lots of great looking AO tanks recently. Yours is no exception. They seem to be really on their game these days.

Actually... Miracles offered and is making me a new tank. If you click on my little red house, you can read about it. ;)

Been tagging along this thread for quite some time. Im so happy for you to finally have the tank in the house after all the preperation and planning you have done. The stand came out so darn nice with the wainscot behind it... well done.

Good luck connecting the hoses to the manifold now. Ouch- tight fit! ;)

Next week will be a big one once the water goes in..congrats.

Well, I thought I would post, I've been watching this build from day 1 (the first build I caught early enough to do so) and I will have to say, you are quite the perfectionist..

Everything looks great, keep up the good work, and don't call me a chemist** either haha

Thank you very much. I did manage to get the hoses connected yesterday. It was a little cramped under the stand but I found that a little olive oil (extra virgin of course :p ) on the barb made it a little easier. I had assumed that the clear plastic hose would be the more difficult (when it comes off the reel at the store it's essentially flat and quite stiff) but actually with the aid of my wife's hair drier (I don't have the need for one these days :D ) it softened up enough to slip on the fitting. The blue corrugated pool vacuum hose (that I decided to use because I thought the clear hose would be more difficult) was a PITA to get on the hose barbs. I managed to get it on about half way and put on one hose clamp but it should be okay as it's only a gravity drain.

Alan the tank looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Eric
Thanks a lot for those kind words. I am well pleased so far. I'm glad I went with the 30" deep (front to back) size as it gives the tank, well ...... more depth. particularly with the external overflow freeing up tank space.

First Addition

First Addition

Well I couldn't wait so I got a new specimen. It went right in the tank and he appears to be doing fine. Here's a photo.

Anyone know what species it is??

Love the fish!! I hear that type of fish will do all your tank maintenance and keep parameters in check for you. May be hostile to n00bie fish.

Congrats on getting the tank moved safely into place. Looks fantastic!

I don't know... he looks pretty unhappy to me. Look at that mug. :p No offense, but I think he's a little rough in the face too. :D

Deepsandbedius Nubulis - A very rare breed indeed. Lurks in the depths of a deep sand bed, waiting for innocent newcomers to wander on by!

Great thread all around Alan, from design of the entire system through to the build of that piece of furniture you refer to as a stand.

Thanks ReefEnabler - I (and my wife) are very pleased. So should I have put other fish in first before adding the Moenubee hostiallis?

Thanks for the complement on the stand and the system. A lot of work has gone into both. I will finish up the trim on the top of the stand this coming week while it slowly fills with water.

Anyone notice the bit of paper in the doors? He didn't even wait for the varnish to dry. :D

Now Tom don't blame that on me. Those are temporary handles while my dear wife (and interior decorator) decides what handles/knobs to get. If it were up to me the masking tape would suffice but you know women -- they always want to gussy things up with baubles. :p

Get her to get something nautical like dolphins, anchors or mermaids. They will match those plastic treasure chests you plan to use in place of LR. ;)
