Frag Swap Exceptional Frag Judging POST HERE

Zoas are really hard to judge to be honest. Seems they come out with a new batch of flavors every 6-9 months or so. Other than some of the obvious collectables like PPE, tubbs blues, redwines, eclipes, etc., that have a large demand and small supply that are usually shoe in's for the rare category ; but if it's not, it really needs a wow factor. Aside from the wow factor I believe there has to be a general recognized value of $35+ within your average 1-2" frag, please correct me if Im wrong. I think were still debating on the red zoas glee, I'll let reefer334 make the final decision.

dlee300z: The watermellon chalice would make a great addition to the EF category. However if there is lineage behind it, by all means please extend the information to the potential receiver! The two acros would make wonderful general category swapping frags.

MARS Lokani

MARS Lokani

Hey Judges

Here, hold this ticking bomb!!!

I know it is going to be hard to judge this.

I'm going to enter a couple of pieces of the my personal stock of the MARS Lokani into the frag swap. FWIW - the club is putting a couple larger frags of it on the frag swap raffle table too.

So, is the MARS Lokani...

and EF?

Brian, I'll let you hold that ticking EF yourself till you get to the swap! ;)
Thank you, your MARS A. lokani frag will make a great addition :)

Sounds good. LMK. I wait with baited breath for your all powerful acro-ruler to measure my worthiness. ;)

The powers that be provided some nice input that I could find a middle ground for you. Please have GARF bonsai frags at least 1" and also be able to provide traceable contacts of it's lineage as a few similar morphs have come in, that are lacking the collectable value of it's original. Thanks again Pete

LE Frag

LE Frag

I have some Steve Tyree Blue Eyed Girl zoas I got from him during the group buy. I don't have a camera that will take a good enough picture though.

thanks

they are an unnamed red zoanthid colony that i purchased from a lfs more than 8 months ago and are growing steadily. about two months ago, they suffered from one bout of zoa pox which i treated with furan 2 twice over two weeks. they are fully recovered and growing again.

they are kept on the sandbed under 250w mh 12k reeflux bulbs. they have always kept their color and the picture is accurate.

thank you for your consideration.

Sorry for the delay, A 10 + polyp frag is ok for an exceptional frag.

Thanks and see you at the swap!!1

Justin, the lineage is as follows:

me <- David Alarid <- Matt Toser <- Sean (Exotic) <- Ming (Atlantis)

Guys...Is there any chance we could reconsider Tubbs blues? They are nice and pretty but are as cheap as any common zoo these days and were one of the corals that there were tons of in the later rounds at the last swap. They just grow SO fast. I am not upset no matter what the ruling and can bring like 100 polyps if they are left as rare but IMO the time has come to call them pretty and neat but not rare or exceptional.

Thanks for all your hard work in selecting and judging the corals and for your consideration :)

Not to make waves, and I don't really care what the decision is (being that Tubs are still fetching big bucks in many places in the US, just not here), but if you do take them off the EF list, then the un-named red zoas above should, IMHO come off as well. Said my peace, and I'll interject no more on this matter, and let the people who get no love and all the grief do their job.

I thought I was logged in when in fact it was my friend Nick's login that I typed the previous message under. Please aim all bolts of lightning in my direction and not Nick's as he is just an innocent bystander.:p

I agree Pete... I am o.k. with any decision the deciders make. I was just stating my own thoughts and was hoping the pickers might think it over

Maybe in Sac there common but when I went to another city this weekend, the LFS was selling a 2 polyp frag for $50!!!!!!

Depends on where you live I guess.

not here to create waves but i'm curious how the judgment is made on what is exceptional and the size requirements. some of these stony corals take forever to grow out even under ideal conditions.

i agree that some of these corals still fetch alot of $$$ in other regions of the united states.. lack of supply and high demand.

I say leave all how it is.
The next swap people can edit rules BEOFRE they post for the fall swap.

I vote against ANY changes to what's already been approved or disapproved for this swap.
Can't change the rules in the middle of the game.

If you have complaints please PM them to me or Justin!!!!!
This is not the place for them.
If you have a frags to post then post it, if not then keep your comments to PM's or another thread as this was not what this thread was inteneded for!!!

Thanks
