Gabriel's NEW 300 Gallon Envision Tank ((PICS INTENSE))

Be careful about scraping that algae off! You could end up with a much more serious problem. I think that you ned to find the root cause, and I would also consider removing any rocks with a lot on them. Maybe clean them in a SW bath. Or put them in the fuge.

Shawn, they are wood dowels.

Okay, I'm jealous. It must be awesome to have places like this where you can just stop in and buy stuff!

aint that the best.. i can stop by any of these places and get the "new" stuff right on the spot....

Are those copper pipes ??

yup.. should i worry about something? they are not connected to the lights.. the lights just hang from them....

is there something wrong with copper? tell me now so i can change it before i get lazy and leave them in place...

Not as long as it doesn't come in contact with your water. On another note, that algae looks like a turf type which for my boss, was unable to get rid of it. He ordered a clean up crew to boost his tank but I'm not sure if it helped. I'll ask.

Most don't like to hear it, but I'd hold off on more sps frags. My tank even though I transferred it took about 2 to 3 months to stabilize. All my sps either lightened up hardcore or bleached (mainly caps). I had hardly any growth as well. A friend setup his tank and he is having the same issues. You might not have that problem, but I would definetly not buy anymore till you see nice growth and continued coloration. Hopefully you will not have a new tank syndrome. But I would definetly hold off and observe. Alot of changes will happen in your tank and that algae imo needs to get removed before adding sps.

My experience is if you have phosphates in the tank leaching from wherever, sps grow much slower and colors fade.

Hope that helps and good job on the setup.

wow...they were wood dowels before right? I thought they were! You should get rid of the copper. I mean it. Any potential condensation will drip copper into your tank and it is very bad for many reef inhabitants. They will oxidize and when you slide the hangers copper dust will fall into the tank.

jnarowe, I guess your eyes are getting bad in your old age  I think he was using dowels and switched to the copper... Once it was confirmed they were copper I was going to recommend them to be removed for reasons you stated... Maybe at least cover them with something...

phospates are nill just tested them.... i hope the clean up crew will take care of this algea problem...

i didnt think about condensation and copper.. ill take them down and paint them it a heavy epoxy this weekend.... thanks for the heads up...

Yah, nasty green stage there. :(

I know people say it's part of the cycle on a new tank but I simply refuse to believe that. The only thing that should happen is a diatom bloom. Hopefully you know the cause. Where did the rock come from?

My thoughts exactly. When I set up my tank I never experienced any algae blooms, probably because I moved alot of water over from the old system.

Gabe, your tank has great potential, but I would have taken care of the algae before introducing any corals.

You have all the right equipment and things in place, just take it nice and slow, it takes many years to create an amazing reef.

Good luck :D

Great looking set-up, but definitely get rid of the copper pipes. Aluminum or plastic would be better, but salt water condensation on copper would be a very bad combination.

lol coper piped will be covered with an exopy paint.. lol at least i will never get ick.. have the medication built into the tank....

i agree with rulesmith - the cleanup crew will eat that stuff up. Get a combination of Scarlet Hermits and a variety of snails.

Man, I was just tagging along for the ride, until now...

Now, my wife wants to move out of state so I am forced to sell my setup..

Now the good part. After showing my wife your tank she is going to let me do a in-wall what-ever size I want.

Needless to say.. She has agreed to help me with a 96" long x 36" wide x 30" deep for a wooping 448.8 gallons.

So, I will probablly be asking quite a few question when I do this.

A nice little upgrade from my existing 55 gallon!

Actually I was planning on a bathing suit and a snorkel.. lol

We were thinking about going 36" deep, but I think that is to deep..

Anything after arm's length is too deep. Another thing to think about with deep tanks is lighting. Your lighting costs go up dramatically with deep tanks. To me, front to back (depth) is more important with large tanks, it gives you so many more options.

Gabriel, I'll PM you the info tonight.
