What do you do about supplemental lighting?

Eddie I have some led's and t5's pure actinic that run about 8 hrs a day give or take between the two.
They are over my tank in the back mounted on some tek light legs.

Does that provide an aestheticly good look or that does not matter to you as long as you get results?

They look good IMHO but also gives me a chance to enjoy the tank when the MH's are not on.

so you have it mh on t5 off? or do the t5's run while the mh are on?

Eddie the actinics run the longest prior to during and after the mh's

I need to become a member of the Radium Club sooner than later, but my Dinosaur ballasts wont allow me. I just got dual 250W Ushio 20K, and I not impressed.

Have you considered XM's they are great bulbs and I believe your ballasts will run them adequately.

Ive wanted Radiums for a while but knew my ballast limitations.

I tried a bulb out last year when Marine Depot introduced them called Aquamaxx 14K (i got them for $30 each), got EXCELENT results, youve seen the pics. When it was time to change i got Reeflux 14K since everyone raves about them. I had them for 1 month (not impressed), went to MACNA and met the USHIO guys there. I was unaware of any 20K bulb that ran with older ballasts. Got them there.

So.... no. I was not even aware of other 20K that ran with older ballasts. At this point I have 2 pairs of <1 month old bulbs I dont like (reeflux 14K and Ushio 20K).

I got tid of must of my old sticks. Kept some frags around for this new build.

Recent fish additions include: samefasciatus genichantus/3 bratlets anthias/ 1 pyramid butterfly.

XM's 20 k 400 watters have a very high par. The grwoth was fine.

Whats your take on 250W vs 400W on a standard 120G? Heat etc..

When i take the plunge ill do it right.

Bud wrong person to ask since I've been down that road a couple of times and always end up back with my 400's. As far as heat well u know the answwr to that one.
