Since there's no perfect suface for the bottom of the tank even using foam to correct the irregularities this method imo is far superior.
I believe u can look up undersize bottoms as another name for this manufacturing techique. Hth

You explained its purpose well, but does this mean there are 2 bottoms or that the bottom is positioned differently to compensate for irregularities? ie glued to insides of sides instead of bottom??
