gasman's059 new build!

awesome.....love the acro/stag on the right. amazing......whats the wrasse? Some one at a shop told me that he has seen those wrasses pick at SPS?

There's about 4 different stags grwing in that corner, hard to appreciate from the pic but the goal is to have them grwo all together

Oh man Manny! Seeing your tank from the eyes of someone putting one together is makes me aspire for the best from the get go. Im hoping one of these days I get a chance to look at it in person. Im very interested in your sump design since I will be putting a new one together.
Ill shoot you a text to see if youre available at all anytime fairly soon.

Ill try to get some pics of how the sump looks like now-if you look back in the thread there's some pics of the actual sump and all of its inner workings.

One of the reasons to keep this thread alive is to help out those who are in the process of building new systems. to learn and not make the same mistakes i've made over the years.

By no means this is the only way, just the way it has work for me in this particular tank

Manny, I was examining your sump pictures and decision making in the first couple pages of the thread and I liked your concept. I was going to go with socks and started thinking twice because I know I dont have time to clean socks often enough, thus making socks ineffective for me. I was considering having a small section to catch the majority of the detrius, and I think following with a pad is a nice added buffer. Skimmer will go in the first big chamber for me, followed by a section to hang my media reactors and possibly a frag rack in the longer run.
Im still looking, but your design seems solid.

Thanks for sharing your experiances.

JWright the pad works effectively and u can buy a roll very inexpensive. Just cut to the desired lenght and width and change whne needed, just throw it away.

This is a carbon copy of our friend Castells and his years of trials and tribulations.
We are always looking for an easier way to take care of our tanks, and this one by far exceeds the socks and thie maintenance for sure.

like manny said its african cleaner. Your friend might have hade parasites on his sps witch is why he thought the wrasse was picking at the corals.

sweet tank GM..

Looking good Manny. I love those anemones. Ive never had the courage to have one with all the flow and powerheads we have.

Been a while Manny... ;)

BTW, was reading up a bit on one of the foods you feed, 'The Chef' recommends feeding it out of a mesh bag; I'm very interested in doing something like this to give the nippers something to, well, nip at, for extended periods of time. Do you feed it this way? One website recommended an 800 micron mesh bag, but I just find it hard to believe a fish could pull much food out of it. (Rogger if you see this join in :D)

Hi Austin, The mesh I use is a not a micron mesh, the openings are approx. 1/4" it is made of food grade soft silicone rubber.
Both the clip and the mesh are almost indestructible, I have a set for over 3 years and other than the normal algae grow it works perfect. Shoot me an email with your address and I will ship one for you to try.

WOW resurrrection of my thread.

Austin here's a pic of the mesh I use. while I don't use that type of clip with the suction cup now the mesh is the same and provides endless hrs of entertainment.

Ah hah! Now that makes a helluva lot more sense! Coral is looking amazing as expected, well done sir.

Thanks Rogger

I have a similar clip to feed THE CHEF's food. My guys tear it up and it would fall from the clip so I now use rubberbands to close it a little more.

You guys just reminded me I bought a TLF magnetic clip to use Roger's food and never did. Manny, Beautiful corals and pics. What did you ever decide to use for your new lighting?

What I decided and what the market bears right now is a different story.
I really like a modular LED system made by aquaillumination but the turnover time is quite long right now and perhaps is not the best time for it, will c:hmm4:
