Gem Tang?

Hi

I currently have a 5 feet 180 gallon tank. In the tank I have 3 tangs (Kole, Yellow and Purple Tang)

Just discovered a Gem Tang for sale and am tempted to get one. Would it cause any issue with the established tangs in my tank?

How much was it?

Agreed. The similiar shape may have issues. But if you don't see your other tangs as aggressive now then you may be able to get away with it.

U will have serious problem.

If you really want one introduce it in a comfortable basket for a couple of weeks and be ready to take out your other tangs in case of aggression, it will be sad to waste a gem tang.

It is about usd1.5k

Unfortunately the purple is larger than the gem tang and agree that it will be a waste of the gem if it gets beaten up and killed by the purple....sigh

Looks like I would have to pass on the gem

??? Just get rid of the other tangs and have the gem as your centerpiece tang. You can get a yellow and purple anytime.

Would keeping it in an acclimation box help?

And would 4 tangs be too much for a 5 footer tank?

Purple tangs never read the acclimation box/basket chapter, they are the meanest of all Zebrasoma spp.

If you really want that Gem , take out the others, put them in boxes, let the gem settle in and then release them.

In any case be ready to take the whole tank a part, that what I'd do and did to save a Gem Tang.

They can live together happily in such a tank.

My one friend has a purple and gem in the same tank for 4 years the gem get bullied a lot

My gem is with a black ( rostratum ) my gem bully the rostratum every now and then

If you can catch the purple and yellow rearrange some rock and reacclimate them all together your chances for success with the 3 zebrasoma tangs will greatly increase

The purple will be a problem
Make sure the gem is bigger than the purple
I would advise a smaller gem, so the purple will not see it's dominant position jeopardised :)

Acclimation box would help a lot. Keep it there for at least one or even better two weeks.

I have two yellow and two gems in my tank without any serious issues.

I would go for it if you you find it worth the money :)
