Giesemann Lighting Club.

At Reefapalooza NY, Coralvue was showing off s new LED/T5 hybrid Giesemann light. Here are some pics.

Looks like the Aurora with updated Vervve LEDs. Will this be the new T5/LED hybrid update for the Aurora? Can any one confirm?
I'm looking at buying the Aurora, but will hold off for now and await further update.

Cheers

this might be my first hybrid fixture purchase unless Kessil puts a hybrid out.

Is that a rumor? I never heard this.
That would be awsum too..
Kessil has the best cluster but they also have the most shadows, that would fix that.
They also feel the closest to halides over everything I have tired.

I PM'd Chris CoralVue and the new light is a budget option to the Aurora. They are shooting for a September release but no details on pricing (at least when I contacted him a few weeks ago).

The new hybrid is called "Genesis". I saw it at RAP NY. Very promising. Issue with giesemann is they put NO marketing in their fixtures...I would love to learn more about the Vervve too

I wonder what the trade off will be? Bugger, just when you think you've made a decision it all changes again. Might have to pick up another cheap led just to tide me over.

From looking at the YouTube video, it looks like it's more of a flat design vs the angled reflectors. But someone who was there might have some more info.

if it looks like it does in the picture above, it looks good enough for me. very interested because of the BRS PAR spread results.

did you see it over a filled tank?

Sorry just saw this post. Unfortunately the Coralvue booth had no tanks, just the equipment laying on a table. The fixture was very light.

Has anyone tried the retro LED into these systems? I'd like to ad an AI prime or hydra under it.

Yes I did, I put 2 kessil 160we's in the end plate of my infinity. I'm on my mobile right now but I am sure I posted it earlier in this post, or u can look up "white tiger" on r2r and my build is there too.

Hello Geisemann owners. I have never used halides only T5 and LED. I'm getting the 24" spectra. Please help me select the best tank dimensions to use this fixture appropriately without overkill. 24x20x20, 24x24x20 or 32x24x20?

I'll have sps and lps. Please help me with MH bulbs as I'm a newb when it comes to them, thanks.

Personally I would go with the larger ones. The spectra has a nice big area it can cover.

For ballasts run an m80. Hamilton still makes them. Or get a luxcore select a watt ballast and run the radium bulbs in 250w hqi mode. If you go 400w just regular 400w mode is fine.

Thanks for your input. So you think I can get away with a 36" long tank then?

I'm debating on what light to go with my next build. Was set on the spectra, but am very tempted to go with a T5/LED or even straight LED. I like the Aurora, but see the Genesis has Vervve clusters which tells me the Aurora cluster is old technology. I would really like to know more details such as par tests on the Vervve. To me it seems like a better fixture than the Radions.
I'm running MH now and the heat kills me since I have a chiller running non stop... so many out there now having success with Leds make me want to venture.

I actually just took down my 24" spectra. I loved the color that my 250w radium / 2 blue+, 2 actinic provided however I did not like the heat and energy draw associated with it. I also didn't like the spectra's single reflector for both bulbs and how the front bulbs and back bulbs are on separate channels. The optimal viewing times were also cut to 6 hours because if I raised the light any more than it was it would blind any viewers in the room.

I was able to find a deal locally on a 24" 4 bulb ati hybrid. I am testing it out now with SAHINs profile and while the verdict is out I am very happy so far. I am using half the power and my tank and office do not heat up nearly as much. However, I am still adjusting the color and during the main lighting hours it's not quite exactly the same as the spectra with t5s.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response. Yeah I'm more and more convinced to move away from the spectra. I know corals would have all they need but the dilemma with halides is the heat....
I just got an email from BRS, stating that the Vervve are indeed a better choice than the Radions, based on power and spread. They also look so sweet. I'm a T5 guy and always loved all ATI units I've owned. The Matrix are really nice looking, but par is not as great as the ATI's.

Joined the club today. I picked up a new 24" spectra from BRS. My tank is 32 x 24 x20. I decided to use a 250w Radium driven by a PFO HQI ballast. For the T5's I decided to go with 3 ATI Blue+ and one KZ Fiji Purple. Setup and installation of this light was really a breeze. I used the included adapter to wire up my ballast to the Giesemann plug. The included hanging kit is also very nice.

This is my third lighting setup so far and hopefully my last. I started out with two of the original AI Hydras (not 26 or 52). I was able to get some decent growth but the colors on the SPS were not all that great. The shadowing was also very irritating. So I decided after about 2 years of that I would try a MH LED combo. I picked up a PFO mini pendant and used a 14k Phoenix bulb driven by a HQI ballast. On either side of the MH I had my Hydra LED's. This setup still left me with some shadowing but the colors were much improved. One day I stumbled across the Giesemann Spectra on the interwebs and thought I'd have to give it a try. So here I am.

My only question is, BRS says each group of two T5's is controllable. My unit only has two cords coming out. One goes to the MH ballast, the other is a power chord. When the power chord is plugged in all T5's illuminate. Is there some trick to get the front bank and rear bank to turn on separately?

Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated.
