Gigantea/Haddoni hybrid. Comments invited

I posted this on the Reg Gigantea thread but feel that it does deserve it's own thread. So please fire away. Any other example please add on to this thread.
Here is a picture of my Green Gigantea. He has a lot of the characteristics of a Haddoni.

First picture show the two anemones, the Tan Gigantea and the Green on side by side. Notice the tentacles of the green one are a lot shorter, but pretty long in compare to normal Haddoni tentacles.

This Green Gigantea has sky blue foot and light blueish purple veracuae, but it live on the sand attached to rock under the sand. Notice the shape of the tentacle tips, they are classic for Gigantea with tapper ends. even after I disturbed it to take pictures. You just got to take my word for it that it vibrate a lot in low water movement.

I don't see it. Or I should say, I don't see what would make anyone think this was a haddoni, or haddoni-like. To me, this would look 100% S. gigantea the whole way...

I've seen this occur when two gigs are in contact with each other. One looks like a typical shaggy gigantea while the other has shorter tentacles. I've always thought that there was some allelopathy between gigs, not to the point where one would kill the other, but enough where one was more affected -- the weaker or smaller of the two -- than the other. I also believe that it could be the male's (or female's) way of keeping a natural distrance between one another.

The green anemone is a sand dwelling anemone and very short tentacles. This anemone is approaching 10 years in captivity. My Tan Gigantea have been under captivity for only 10 months. I am feeding the Green Gigantea three times a week and not feeding the Tan anemone for the last several months (they do catch fish food and eat them). Pictures from the precious owner also show that it is a sand dwelling and attached to a piece of rock about the size of a 50 cent piece, and with very short tentacles also

To me it is a clearly Gigantea but clearly Haddoni like, especially if you can see them in person.

Here's how Fautin and Allen describe the habitat in which giganteas are typically found: "usually lies at the surface of the sand, often among corals; pedal disc attached to a buried object." Most of the photos I've seen of gigs in the wild show them in a sandy area. When I got my first gig, for these reasons I placed it on a rock that had a pit filled with sand. In other words, just because the nem is buried in the sand, doesn't make it a haddoni.

I'm not seeing any haddoni traits either. I have seen lots of pics of wild gigs that had tentacles like your anemone's.

I like the idea of a hybrid but evidence hasn't support the theory yet... Atleast not to me. I believe all anemones has the adaption to any environment this is Mother Nature if they don't learn to adapt quickly they will perish. This is why if you give it choice it will choose. As to the gigs with short tentacles it has to do with dominance/environment also. my green petco gig from time to time would display short tentacles but my purple gig will always have the full tentacles displaying. So I think that environment and dominance has some role in playing a big part in how a nem lives and act throughout the day/night. Hybrid would be awesome. Just as long as they kick the fish eating habit. Lol

Both my Gig are in the sand as well but the Foot is attached to the rock i can try and take a picture of the foot tonight as you can clearly see the foot when you look under my tank

I think that he is not very much like the rest of my Gigantea, now or in the past. He is not a Haddoni, and I am not saying that he is. Just that this is a sand dwelling anemone and with very short tentacles (for a Gigantea) which are two of the characteristic of Haddoni rather than Gigantea.

This green Gigantea have been in captivity for 10 years. Healthy, eating like a pig. It usually looking like this. Also in the picture is my Tan Gigantea looking quite different. I can see that the Green Gigantea looks a lot like a Haddoni. Don't get me wrong, it is not a Haddoni. It has a lot of the characteristics of a Haddoni, especially the way it hold its body and the short tentacles in compare to my other Giganteas.

I'll give it to you, from those pics, I would guess you are keeping a gig and a haddoni together.

It is funny that last night when I came home my ritteri had this same pose and the clowns were swimming all around and through it. It kept it for about an hour.
