Grand opening pictures

I think i know where the shortage of bira spira went.. JOHN ordered it all for his store :-P

I was trying to get some for my tank and everywhere is sold out.

Well, I finally made it there today. I'd have to give YourReef a 5 star rating on their IPO. John and his lovely wife Stacy did an excellent job.

The prices are outstanding as well. I didn't realize that large '$45' tang was a Hawaiian import. That's really a bargain considering that any specimen imported from Hawaii, Australia, or the Red Sea is going to carry a premium price tag.

I couldn't believe I bought 2 clams, a starfish, and coral dip for under $60.

It was also nice to run into some fellow MARS members during my trip. All livestock was healthy. The percentage of drygoods that actually have a turnover is extremely high. The choice of interior paint really warms the place.

The new logo was well designed (nice job, Chris). Don't forget to save me a t-shirt Stacy!

Remember when Barry came to the club and was talking about H.hippopus that are good for filtering. Well, John had quite a few of them. Can't remember the price - but they were quite reasonable.

I think they were $15, I almost got me a few. Matter of fact I meant to, but after 20mins the kids were approaching critical mass.

so your saying all other tangs from other LFS are not net caught from hawaii..
lol

Sounds to me like you believe that all other tangs from other LFS are net caught from Hawaii.. if so, you may want to do more research.. i'd suggest you use the Search button and Read :).. just in case you didn't know, not all tangs are net caught! and those that are DO go for more $$..

when i first started the hobby, i looked at fish price over quality and can say that i lost several non-verified net caught fish.. since then, i've made it a point to buy net caught fish.. to date, i've only loss 1 verified net caught fish; a Red Sea sailfin.. and it was because my other tangs beat the cr@p out of it and i had no way to catch them..

as for John's store, definately  i didn't pick up any corals or fish today, but did pick up some IO and a PhosBan reactor..

BTW.. Karl snagged 2 of the H.hippopus.. don't remember if there are any left.

Wow! Congrats to John and everyone in MARS. Looks like you guys just got yourself a class act fish store. If he follows trend with other hobbyist run endeavors it should set a new standard for other LFS to step up to.

does anybody know what size the blue hippo tangs are and if there is anymore left...

I want to get at least three or even two nice fat ones....

and does anyone know if John has anymore fish....it sounds like a lot of people bought from him.....?

If I remember correctly there were a few big fish left including a blue hippo tang, but last I looked was around noon ;) He had 2 gorgeous flame angels as well.Man I want one too,I love those things....

Justin,

I was staring at those two flame angels as well. I wanted to get one also, but before I left the house, Stacy said 'No more fish." She repeated it several times. So I ended up with a gorgeous star thingy (we won't use the F word) and four emerald crabs.

Below is the star thingy. Anybody know what specie it is?

Thanks
Minh

If I remember correctly I think I saw 2 hippos. They were about 2-2 1/2 inch in size. I was there around 3-3:30 time frame. The 2 were in excellent condition.

Other than somewhat hard to keep alive for a long time, I have heard good things about them :)
