store

Like i said, the corals are great but not others stuff...
so disppointing for fresh water folks like me, can't get any thing. beside that, there are not much accessories for it.

i spoke to O street and exotic my self, they said the same, they say some of their fish are hand net also but the price ain't that high.

i think you guys are all so protective cause yall all Jon's friends. there for , all your words are not being honest. Still, i am not going to go there if i am not a Corals lover. No hard feeling!

:smokin:

No problem, the funny thing is that a large amount of sales will be coming from us (friend's) and as friends there is also word of mouth...so I think hell do ok :)
My favorite fish store is closing tomorrow, so its nice to have somewhere to go in my neighborhood

To be honest, for most of us who are saltwater only, pretty much all of the other fishstores in the area are very disappointing, couple salt tanks and tons of fresh tanks.

Blue, I respect your opinion, and yes many of us do count John as a friend.

But, if your "I told you so" is based upon O Street & Exotic, you better go back to the drawing board. The nice thing about shopping in those stores is that they have no idea how much knowledge I have, and I have caught both stores in multiple fabrications. I have personally seen some of the most horrid practices at Exotic, and I wouldn't buy a fish there to save my life. The only bright light about Exotic, is Brian.

Alex - I don't think it is a Fromia monilis. They clearly have different patterns. I did several Google search for Fromia monilis, and none of them look like the my starfish. BTW - Pam got the exact same starfish. :D

Blue - you have lost a lot of credibility when you brought up Exotic. Here's a conversation I overheard between an Exotic employee and some woman.

Woman: "All the fish I buy from you keep on dying. What am I doing wrong?"

Exotic Employee: "It's a matter of luck, you haven't been lucky."

Woman: "Oh ok."

Exotic Employee: "Try these fish. They are really lucky."

The Exotic employee catches some sort of tang and sells it to her. Shouldn't they have asked her - how long has your tank been set up? What is your water parameter? How much live rocks do you have? Technically the Exotic employee was right. She hasn't been lucky. If she was lucky, she would have found a LFS where the employee is knowledgeable.

Blue Im starting to wonder who's friends with who, and whos being dishonest? So after you wrote on this board you went out immediately and started canvassing for different opinions or "truth"? And you think you found the truth from exotic? LMAO!Bro you need to get out more:D

But, you know what they say, "Ignorance is bliss..." ;)

Re: store

Re: store

I just have to jump in really quick. First on the "John's friends" comments - I love the new store, and although I'm sure John is a really nice guy from my very limited dealings with him, I would doubt if he even knows my name or would count me as a "friend".....

Second, it is apparent that our friend with the blue facial hair is not into salt water fish or corals with a post like this:

That being the case, I think the "Reef Central" forum for Marine Aquarists may not be coming from the same perspective. It would be a bit like me going to a new Aquarium store called "Your River" and being dissapointed that they did not have any corals....

So back on topic, the pics are great - thanks for posting.

I was in there last night to get the Ca test kit I forgot to pick up durring the grad opeing. He had gotten another shipment in with all sorts of new frags. Even though my tank is full I couldn't pass on a couple of them. One I'm really excited about, it's a bright neon yellow/green with pink coralites. He has a couple frags of this one...and he fragged up that baby blue monti, so how could I pass on that...
That $10 section makes it almost impossible to leave without bringing home a frag. I kept finding myself saying "how can I pass that up for $10"...I think I really need to win that 130 from the WMC raffel....

i was debating getting one of those frags! :D only thing stopping me was the fact i had to resetup my quarantine tank.. i had just broke it down last week after finishing quarantining the frags i got from John the weekend after the last Mars meet!

keep us posted on how the color turns out..

I stopped in on Saturday at about 10am - I couldnt stay very long as my kids started acting up and needed to be sorted out.

But I had a chance to look over the store, prices, and congratulate John and Stacy.

I was not a bit bothered by the lighting, which I did take special note of as I heard other people discussing it. Nor was I bothered by the low selection of fish and other critters. From the Livestock he had in and priced I could tell that he has HEALTHY animals reasonably priced. If He had a zillion fish already in stock we'd be talking about his cycle rather than the animals he does have. He said that he would likely have a much larger selection of fish and such after a week or so when he is sure the tanks are ready. GREAT!

The Coral selection was great and I was impressed with the setup. All corals were clearly priced and easy to view.

The store was clean and organized, I'm sure plans to stock more drygoods are in the near future but I hope that he continues to Keep it simple and focus on Livestock for the most part.

Unfortunately I couldnt purchase anything at that time as I was not going to be going home until later that evening, But I will be back next weekend for some corals fish and shrimp.

wow I have to say it was a very impressive store, nice selection on corals and very healthy looking fish, I would pay a little higher price knowing that my fish will last longer then 2-3 days. Blue, sounds like your on the wrong forum dude, this is Reef.. reading all your post and your similar grammer to a certain other Fresh water person "b****man" I wonder if your one in the same, someone that seems to have a grudge against other LFS, thats all I have to say except, if you have nothing nice to say, its better to say nothing at all. It's the mans grand opening, don't be so rude, shesh some people just don't have respect or courtesy anymore. I wish Jonh and Stacey the best, eventhough I don't think they will need it, looks like they will outshine the rest.

OK ILL start this off like this...

I do not know john SO I can give a good opinion not based on friend status, IF thats what Blue is considered about......

Yes its a small store, BUT its a very NICE store, He was a lil short on fish "you guys wiped him out :-)" but he had a very nice coral area. I picked up a clownfish and a Frag... "ill post pics in a bit.

He was short on dry goods "hmm yet again Yall wiped him out", But he was very Nice adn was willing to orde anything for me.

In a week he will have more stuff and I WILL be going Back.

He was very nice and informative and talked to me about a few things I didnt know and Helped me out. That is what i look for in a LFS, Not how BIG it is.

O street are nice folks and they will have my business also, Fish I think Im going to go with John, drygoods will be a mix between.

I left wished them the best of luck and told him.. Ill be back next week.

John is targeting a main group. SW, He had a customer come in about some FW and told him, If anything ya want let me know I can order it for you and will see if i can get it. So hes willing to work, You gotta be willing to work with him.

Now... You talking about going to exotic. They are the most unfriendly and unhelpfull place I know of. " thats my opinion" I had a very bad shopping experience buying from them. And have never gone back.

Lets say It was just what marks example was like, When i first got into freshwater, They sold me a puffer that killed my angel fish. I told them what I had and they didnt tell me anything about how agressive it was.

I learn from my mistakes, and never went back.
