Great Barrier Reef WARNING LOTS OF PHOTOS!

oh great......

I have been living back in Bangkok for 6 months and you go make me homesick..... I have even been listening to Christine Anu's "My Island Home" as a result of viewing this thread :lolspin:

Brett

ps. Great great pics

Hey guys, according to the poll, and the ReefKeeping webpage, this is the Thread Of The Month for June. :) Thanks guys!
However, the link for TOTM however goes to a thread on "Coral Maternity in Portugal" which is a little confusing. Can any of the mods shed some light on this mystery? :)

Anyway, thanks for all your support! I was out at a new spot on Monday doing an Open Water Course, so there will be photos up soon.

Also, i went out and picked up my new tank last week! 5.5ft long by 2.5ft wide, by 18inches tall, i'll post the odd photo of the tank as it takes shape.
Next reef trip on the 21st and 22nd, so stay tuned for some more photos!

No the link to the link is correct. That "Coral Maternity in Portugal" was last month's TOTM.
Keep those photos coming!

edr- the link was wrong. it is correct now and in the archive of past issues also.

congrats!! you deserve it and have for quite some time.... what 18 months or so now?

as always, i'll look forward to the photos!

Gorgeous photos.
I don't think there is anything quite as beautiful as looking at those magnificent creatures in thier natural habitat! So beautiful! I love the video.

Congratulations on your thread award! Highly deserved. I read the entire thing today, and it was quite intriguing. Your camera upgrade seems to be really great. I think that you should really look into an outlet for selling some of your photographs, as a way to defray costs on such a great hobby. Keep up the amazing work, and thanks for sharing with everyone.

The starfish you posted a picture of looks kinda like the Crown of Thorns Star on the t.v. documentaries.

When you see it, do you see a path of destruction behind it? They supposedly can wipe out an entire area of all it's corals. I think they eat the tissue right off the skeleton.

Great pics!

As for the crown-of-thorns, I found this interesting report:

Sorry, I must have missed it somewhere in the thread...What kind of camera equipment are you using? Love the pictures!

Coral C's: i'm using a Canon Powershot G9 in a canon housing with an Inon D2000S strobe and arm system.

Maika'i: Box Jellies are seasonal and inshore creatures, they are actually strong swimmers and lead active lives hunting in the mangroves and inshore waters. They do not go out as far as the reefs though, and are only active in the summer months.

Thanks for all the comments guys!
I've got another 3 trips worth of photos on my computer being processed, and i'll be out on the island thursday, saturday and sunday, so stay tuned.
Instructor Development Course starts in 2 weeks now, so soon!

Thank you very much. My husband is just finishing up dive certification and I would love to get him a nice camera he can take under water with him. If I can't join him atleast he can share. :)

We are all waiting anxiously edr42. Thanks for sharing these incredible images. This is by far the best thread I have ever followed.

Um....just in case...although I'm probably way off... this thread is about the Great Barrier Reef, nowhere near Mexico. It is off the coast of Australia. :)

CTS, are you heading to Cancun or Cozomel?

I'm lucky enough to live near the Great Barrier Reef (off the lower tip actually..) Our local beachs have got corals and reef fish developing homes now too so you can actually snorkle off the coast (less then 20 mts off the beach) It is amazing :)
