griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

Here’s the progress we made. Ignore the not to code electric, it’s a temp circuit.

And here’s the eShopps sump being water tested.
I put the RO waste hose in it and ran out to get the lumber. Came back to it overflowing. I believe it’s water tight, will do another test to make sure. If it holds water, I’ll keep that sump and sell the IceCap 36XL.

The boy’s boss needed the concrete drill this weekend so, we didn’t get that. Plan was to rent one but then the oldest brought grandkid over and the weekend plans got changed.

Next weekend, I have funeral/celebration of life for my co-worker’s husband. So, might be a bit before progress is made.

Framing complete. We moved the wall back a couple feet so we didn’t have to deal with the duct, gas line, etc.

Nice and neat!
My son (turning 25 this month) works construction and is helping when he has time.

Next weekend, run new electric circuit in the new wall. Run temp circuit for the outlets on the existing wall. If I have time, remove old wall.

Then, the following weekend, finish what I didn’t the previous weekend. Drywall, mud and tape new wall.

Flooring?????

Once flooring is done, I need to reinforce and refinish the stand for the new tank. Also need to either buff out the scratches myself, take it 30 minutes away to have it buffed, or locate another used 120 without scratches that doesn’t kill the budget. ETA - I’m leaning towards finding another used 120.

Then, set up and cycle tank. Thinking of a mix of Tampa Bay Saltwater and KP rock to cycle.

Finally, transfer existing livestock to the new tank and convert the existing tank to a frag tank.

Picture 2 and 3 (respectively right and left side) show the wall that will be removed.

Well, I have 8 active/live outlets in the fish room on one 20 amp circuit.

The plan is for a total of 12 outlets in the fish room on two 20 amp circuits.

So, the first step is complete. Step 2 will be to have the other 4 fish room outlets in-line with the 8 outlets that will be facing the family room type area. I would have gotten that done today too but, I grossly overestimated the amount of wire I had. Need about 25 more feet to finish off but, I’m done for the night.

I’m getting a 50 gallon frag tank from a local reefer in a bit here so I’ve got to go pick that up soon. And, with Mother’s Day tomorrow, I likely won’t make any more progress.

Hopefully next weekend I can finish the other circuit and, at least, begin demo on the old wall.

First pic is the live dedicated fish room circuit and the other two are the combo fish room / family room circuit.

Oh and I bruised the crap out of my knuckles when the drill bit caught in a joist and slammed my hand into a water pipe. That was fun.
I can relate-ish. First time using an impact wrench, got my hand caught between the frame of a car and the handle of the impact wrench
