griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

Well that’s disappointing, I know, but I’ve finished a basement by myself before. It’s (drywall) a lot more work than you think…assuming you haven’t done it before. As much as it sucks to be hampered by the delays, it’s probably a good idea to just wait and have them (or someone else) do it for you. You might be able to find some guys who could knock it out in a few hours if you know of any new construction going on near your house.
I finished the basement in our old house by myself so I know how to drywall. I'm actually pretty good at both drywall and painting, I just really don't like doing it. That's why I was happy to pay the boys to get it done.

T-11 exterior siding is an excellent thing to put up in the fish room around wet stuff.

That is a great Idea. I used this stuff on my shed, painted it looks great. It does have a paneling look to it though.
Drywall I can not imagine is great around moisture.

I was thinking marine grade drywall for the interior. But, will look into T-11.

Haven’t updated in a while but, while we were at the lake a couple weekends ago the boys put up 3 sheets of drywall in what will be a family room area. Still have to finish a partial wall and the inside area of the fish room.

Well, still no progress. The week of July 15 we went to the lake and the boy stayed home. I was hoping the boy and his friend would finish the drywall while we were gone...nope. When we got home I asked him if the drywall fairies had visited while we were gone and he stated, "Haven't seen them and I've been keeping an eye out for them." I guess they don't want to get paid

I may have to bite the bullet and do it myself. Which means, I don't know when I will get around to it. All summer the water on the river has been really high, fast and full of debris so we've only been able to take the boat out on the river once all summer so far. Now, the water is coming down, slowing and there isn't much debris. So, we will want to get in as much boating as possible before the end of the season.

We sold our Carver and decided to take a year or two off from boating to simplify life... I'm sorta enjoying it. But the original buyer was also supposed to be building me new decks. (ours are very old). He backed out of both the boat and the deck builds, so I've spent the last month now spending weekends demo'ing the first deck ( about 44' x 22') and now slowly... slowly.... rebuilding it....

Summer, no progress. But, found a local selling 120 RR and a 150 Deep Dimension (3’ x 3’ x 27”).

Thinking…getting something else would eliminate getting scratches removed from the current 120. But, do if I do this, 120 or 150 cube???? Lighting will be (2) 175w MH and a couple actinic LEDs.

Didn’t deep dimensions have breakage issues back in the day with the bottoms busting out due to thin glass?

To be fair I never really researched it much as I’m a shallow tank kind of guy
To be clear, I’ve read if the have the black silicone on the bottom of the front panel, that’s the issue. If it’s clear silicone there’s apparently no issue.

Should probably explain myself.
I have only had two tank fail in my life and I have owned allot of tanks..

The first was a hex when I was probably twelve and was given to me. No idea how it was taken care of or how old it was.

Second was a Marineland. It was the 93 gallon cube they offer. If you look back even here on RC allot of people had issues with that tank.
I went to leak test it and the glue stretched and you could see hundreds of bubbles in the glue. It was extremely common too. They would not replace my tank because it was drilled. . So basically I had the throw out a brand new tank and stand. I had bought all equipment for it new and had to sell it all at a loss. I certainty was not going to try another tank by them with all the failures at the time.. I lost allot of money. To many failures and by the way that was clear silicone. There is two manufacturers I would not buy from Marineland and Red Sea. Both companies have to many failures and do not care.

Oh and I think Marineland eventually admitted to the failures and blamed it on the glue. Yippie do da where is my money..

The boys put up more drywall (finally) today. They were going to mud but, they didn’t seal the can last time they worked and it dried out. They said they will finish out the “family room” side of the walls next weekend.

I’ve decided for the inside the fish room walls, I’m going to use this. that will have to wait though…Mrs griss has a bucket list item to see a Cowboy’s game in AT&T stadium and we’re doing that next weekend.
