bought these 2 guys as a "package" deal at my local fish store. the maroon was not in the same tank as the anemone but there were several clowns currently occupying the anemone. its been over a week and my maroon dosent seem the slightest bit interested in him. in my other tanks it was literally hours before my clowns took to the bubble tips.

could something be wrong? the anemone is a monster, over 14" across and the clown is about 5"

is there anything i can do to help?

Natural Host

Natural Host

Im not sure if that anemone is a natural host for that fish.

I know many people think that clowns will adapt but wild caught fish are programed to like certain anemones cause of their ability to blend in. Check out some mertens carpets that have long white sweeper tentacles. The clowns white stripes help them fit in better along with the white sweepers tentacles.

I might be wrong about the natural host thing but the other stuff im pretty sure about.

That is not the natural host for your fish. BTA is the natural host. There is nothing you can do to help. It's completely up to the fish. You do know that the anemone you have is probably the most sensitive anemone to attempt, correct? Good luck.

Clownfish are dense sometimes. Sometimes when you dont want them to find it like when you first add a nem and want it to adjust first they do instantly. Took my percs all of an hour to find my carpet nem when they didnt pay any attention to a bta i had with them for mos.
A week isnt long. Like i said it was mos and they never did find that bta, when my last pair of percs took a couple days to find the bta.
Maybe feed the nem some mysis and hopefully it will lure the clowns over to it.

Also like stated above its up to the clowns.

thanks for the help. and yes i know it is a very hard to keep, my 250 gal is in prestine condition with 800 watts if metal halides and a korila 4 blowing on him. hes very happy, very sticky.

i knew that this anemone wasnt the natural host but from the owners advice he said he would take to it no problem,

im running an agressive reef tank so im very limited to the size of a clown, and the only thing i can think of that gets over 6" is a maroon.

ive got a clown trigger, panther grouper and lionfish as well as a harliqin tusk. so a 2" perc just wouldnt stand a chance

i payed 140 bucks for the clown and anemone. did i get ripped off? the nem is about 14" around and the clown is about 5" thats canadian dollars btw (no not monopoly money lol)

U def didnt get ripped off

U def didnt get ripped off

CLARKI complex clows can get up that big in a big enough tank.

he actually had a pair of them but warned me that particular pair was pure evil, they had killed fish, turned over corals and burred them in the sand, killed clams ect....

there were sitting in his sump....

If you were willing to pay it, you weren't ripped off.

Also be weary of stores who tell you it will be ok, especially when they are selling it. :D Unfortunately we put too much stock in what they say. Been there done that.
