history of lunar's reef

I am at work and have only seen the video and recent pic, in no way was I saying the biopellets are the only reason his tank is beautiful. I am saying every nice tank that runs biopellets has a certain look to it, crystal clear water, and happy fish from lots of food. And everytime I see one it makes me want to try them. But my bad experience with vinegar keeps me from trying.

Congratulations again, I'm a fan of your reef

I have some questions, if you permit.

What amino-acid do you use, if any ?

I know you put the return of your BP reactor next to the skimmer feed pump.
I would like to know you opinion about using all the BP reactor flow to feed the skimmer, and just save one pump or do you prefer leave some bacteria to feed the corals ?

Do you quarentine your new corals and fish ?

Lastly, have you consider using siporax to improve your biological filtration ?

Thanks
Thank you, Luiz.
Frankly speaking, I do quarantine not always, it depends on a source of my animals.
I use Salifert Coralline aminoacids or Fauna Marin Ultra amin.
I prefer leaving some bacteria as a food for my corals.
I don't need siporax because there are enough live rocks to provide good biological filtration.

Hi Lunar.
First congratulate by the wonderful aquarium.

I would like to ask you a few questions about your aquarium, if you want.
I have an aquarium 500l +100 l sump and use biopellets XL but do not go well.
Now I use biopllets xl in a reactor with a pump 1000l .
Could you tell me if 1000l/h is much? what flow would you put?. my no3 is 0.2 and my po4 0.1 and I am not able to download it. I should add more biopellets? or should I add po4x4?
thank you very much for helping me.

Best regards

Thank you, coburn13
The pump 1000L should be ok for biopellets XL. Both NPreducing biopellets (tiny, standard version) and XL version decrease mainly nitrates and only to some degree they fight against PO4. However, they should decrease PO4 as well, up to 0,05 at least. Perhaps you provide with so much phosphate that they don't keep up with them. First of all check your RO/DI water, even the best stuff can't help if you keep adding a lot of PO4 every day.
If your RO/DI water is ok, you can either add more pellets or PO4x4 phosphate adsorber. You can also choose another option: All in one biopellets. These pellets combat specially against phosphates. Of course, they decrease nitrates as well.

Hi Krzysztof

Just want to say your tank is absolutely amazing and I class it as one of the best tanks worldwide if not the best! You have been one of my biggest inspirations when I was building my SPS tank so thank you and keep up the amazing work :)

So you realize there is no way you can go on without a skimmer? Better to have a skimmer then not have have one?

How did your corals respond over time without a skimmer?

You can go without a skimmer but it's more difficult and less safe method than with a method with a skimmer. You don't know what stuffs accumulate in your tank over time. If you have a smaller tank you can care about it through frequent or bigger water changes. But such water changes with a big tank carry huge cost. So I prefer having a skimmer.
When my tank ran without a skimmer my corals weren't so colourfull like now, green corals looked best.

Amazing as always Krzysztof! I set my tank up differently to the way you have done but just reading up and looking at your stunning photos gave me the inspiration to try to achieve something half as good as your tank :)

Thank you, Claudio. I dose biogro 123. I add biogro 1 next to an inlet of the pump feeding my filter with All in one biopellets and biogro 2 and 3 directly in the tank.

Absolutely stunning. You are an inspiration!

This tank is a piece of art !!!!

In the next life I want to born with the Krzysztof skills to keep a reef tank !

Congrats !

Hi Krzysztof,

How long have you been using the all in one pellets?.
Have you stopped the PO4x4?.

Has your phosphate level dropped further?.

What/ how much are you feeding now?"¦.

Thanks

Thank you, guys.

All in one biopellets is a new product from the Netherlands so I haven't been using them too long - a bit over 3 weeks. On the day when I put them into my sump Hanna photometer showed 0,04 of PO4. There was a filter with PO4x4 adsorber then. I left it until the new pellets start to work. After 3 weeks PO4 was 0,00 and the same day I removed the filter with the adsorber. The pellets work for sure, the PO4 level is still 0,00. I can adjust both a movement of pellets inside the filter and flow out from the filter so I decreased flow out from the filter in order to have some phosphates in the tank. The PO4 level 0,03 gives me the best colours.
I feed my corals on a mix of different seafood twice a week and dry food like Reef pearls or Calanus powder every other day now. I have been dosing aminoacids as well every day for several days.
