Housing two emperors together

The smaller one in your tank is just changing so for sure still female.

The big one could be a male or a mature female.

Pairing them should work, especially since the smaller one is already in your tank and well established.
The larger one, if not already a male, will change to be the male.

I would give it a try but get the store to agree to take the large one back if it doesn't work out.

Yeah this store is not as understanding as some others. Taking back is not an option.

Then maybe see if someone from your region here might line up to take it in case it doesn't work out.

This.

We'll, just picked him up so let's hope these two get along. Maybe I'll change some of the rocks around the day off to try and make things a little easier.

Yes, males tend to have blue/grey face and females white and as others have said these have a good chance to pair. IME It's easier to add a large angel to a small than the opposite. Emperors can grow fast. My xmas island grew from a 2.5" juvi to a 9" male in 3 years.

Are you not quarantining?

Yes definitely quarantine.
Prob do two weeks since he's been at the store since the 8th and they treat with copersafe.

Will do Prazipro and chloroquine - have had great success with that setup.

It's the only way I would ever do it

In my house all fish are $20 and any new fish has just been "hiding" for a long time hahahahaha.

My wife wouldn't believe the $20 ... though the "was hiding" sometimes works :D
The issue are actually not so much new fish but rather number of tanks...
Sooner rather than later I will have to shut down some QTs :(

I'm looking into getting a pair as well. I want to put some hardier corals in there with them. Anyone
Keep emperors with leathers, colts or any similar corals?

There is one exception (so far) to Pacific variety having dorsal fin streamer which is the Christmas Island variety. Christmas Island emperors have rounded dorsal fin.

I have both types.

Not sure I see a difference in their face colors though. The male is the larger, with the rounded fin.

That population is right on the biogeographic border, so they mixed there to some extent.
