Huge GHL CHILLING Announcement

Their performance and how they are integrally designed, not information GHL will release to an open forum for obvious reasons.

Longevity is a key factor also that has been given huge thought and designed into the units.

Interesting - I'll have to buy one and compare them. :) It almost sounds as if you're implying the Geotronics isn't built for longevity - which of course isn't the case - the only thing that can go wrong is the components in the fan (no compressor, etc) and I've had no problems in nearly two years. I bought the 400 four my 120XL and liked it so much I got a 900 for my 160XL. :)

Anyway, good luck with the launch, I'll look out for them!

From what i have seen the Geotronics unit is built to last, my comments are only based on what you can expect from the ProfiLux, and not in relation to any other product.

Please keep track of this thread for release dates so you can try one

Best wishes
Michael

As Matthias said early today in this thread, prices will be launched shortly.

The key factor to remember here is that the GHL unit is THE only unit that can interface with the ProfiLux directly.

They have of course some things in common:
1. they make water cold or warm
2. they use peltier elements, a heatsink and fans
3. there are connectors for hoses

I think these things are obviously and need no more comment.
And I don't want to make here comparisons or even talk bad about other products or companies! This can be done in other forums by other people.

But:
Our unit is designed to be controlled by ProfiLux. The commands to cool or warm come from our controller. The advantage is that
you have a complete temperature management:
- cool water with peltier element
- start PropellerBreeze
- and if that's not enough: decrease or shut off lamps
- alarm unctions
- nocturnal decrease of temp.
- and all other ProfiLux control features!

Other differences will be:
- performance (we use peltier elements with more Watt)
- other heat exchanger design
- different control algorithms
- different materials

and some other things i don't like to mention here and now.

Oh man, you got me all excited about the new Chiller :D. So 4 more weeks? Look like i have to order the Profilux Controller as well...

A couple of questions. Don't know if you can answer or not yet but I'll throw them out there.
1. Does it have to be controlled by a Profilux Controller or will other manufacturers controllers be able to control it to some degree?
2. Which Profilux Controller will be required to control it; as there are many stages of the Controller II. Will the Entry work or will it require beginner or higher?

Thanks in advance

Sharkbait1, I don't think you will be required to have a specific kind of Plus II controller, you'll probably only need a free slot in your powerbar.

Regarding release date
We make final tests in the next 2 weeks. After this I can give you details about the performance and prices.
In about 4 weeks we will produce the first small series.
We try to provide our distributors with some of the units before Interzoo. (down under will get some, too ...)

Can you also let us know the dimensions of the unit and weight etc at the same time.

@Sharkbait1 & ReefRockerLive:
you need a ProfiLux with temperature input - all models have this, with one exception: the ProfiLux II doesn't come with temp. input. But if you add an extension card "PLM-Temp" or "PLM-pH-Temp" to the ProfiLux II it can also measure temperature.
But a ProfiLux II eX comes with pH and temperature and is cheaper than a ProfiLux II with extra card.

The "ProfiLux Temperature Control" is not only simply switched on and of - this device will be controlled smoothly between 100% (full heat) - 0% (everything off) and -100% (full cooling). For this reason it will not be connected to a socket of a powerbar - it will be connected to a 1-10V-port (L-port).

@chiefzod: yes, ASAP

Shark bait,

When looking at the kit lists, there are only two controllers that are in the kits, entry up to advanced plus has a ProfiLux Plus II controller and from professional upwards has a profiLux plus II EX controller.

Whats the difference?

The EX has an onboard expansion card pre installed that provides redox, salinity a 3rd level port and L5L6, this allows the 3 standard expansion ports to remain free, giving a larger scope for future upgrades. And of course the plus II can have this EX expansion fitted to it as an addition at any time also.

If you look at the kits lists the differences are what level of accessories are included, not a difference in controller (other than what is mentioned above)

ALL ProfiLux's that we market in North America come with Temperature control (both heating and cooling control) as standard, so no matter what ProfiLux kit you choose from our dealers you WILL get this feature to run the new chillers

Hope that helps
Best wishes
Michael

OK thanks, but can it be controlled by anyone else's controller. With the way it work it don't think so but would be nice to know

My personal oppinion (not based on 100% exact knowledge)

As GHL would have to provide other controller manufacturers detailed information to the wiring concepts of their controller, I can not see them doing this.

However matthias may have a trick up his sleeve to accomodate this, but that is pure speculation on my part.

Ah bummer - I didn't realize you need a Profilux controller to power the unit. Are there any plans to make this a standalone unit? I would think it would help resale value.

W/O a dedicated included controller or a Profilux - I doubt another controller could operate it. That's one of the cool things about multiple fan Peltiers - the number of fans operating and the speed at which they operate depends on water temp. I had mine on a Kill A Watt and the power ramps up and down from 20 to a few hundred. Its not just on/off like most chillers, and the built-in heater is really convenient.

It can be controlled from another controller, but only on/off (100%, 0%) by switching a power socket. This does not make much sense.

But the main advantage of this unit will be that the intensity of heating and cooling can be changed smoothly.
If you want to use all features you need a ProfiLux.
