I bought a blue ish carpet anemone today at my LFS. While I have given up my year long search for a gigantea, This perticulare anemone looks a little different than haddoni. It is still in a ball, but its tenticles are going crazy.

I was 90% sure when I saw it, but am looking of confirmation :D

When I bought it, it had just arrived in the LFS shipment, and was in the bag. But I could tell it was different than the other carpets next to it. I said it look like gigantea,, and ask what species, the invoice said unknown. It is very sticky, has a tight month, and all balled up is, about 8". I will be curious to see how big it is...Im excited!!!! The footprint of its foot is about 4-5"

Ill post some pics once it opens.

Nice. Keep updating us to know how its doing. These are one of the hardest anemones to keep. BTW, did you get that as a price for the haddon? :D

I wish I could buy a purple gigantea by "accident". :p

Congrats on the find, very nice BTW, and best of luck.

PS. I get a 404 not found when I try your website link.

I have two gigantea's, they are by far my favourite. Like Minh said, water movement is key with this species. I don't think you can overdo the water movement (should be agitated and alternating IMO).

Once again good luck.

Thanks - Sorry bout the link, here is the correct one :D

I have 2 returns (AM 3600) and a 50 gallon surge tank, the goes every 4 min, and runs for 60 secs out of a 2" pipe. The whole tank gets a massive current blast, well see how it likes that?

Nice find. Good luck with it. Sounds like you have good conditions for success. A lot will depend on the condition of the anemone. I looks good now, but for some reason gigantea can go south in a hurry, through no fault of your own.

FWIW: Colored anemones are always more expensive than brown or common colors, but IME, gigantea's are often a little less expensive than haddoni of equal color.

Sweet. I just read though your page, what a great system, I'm jealous.

Do you have any current pics and/or videos? You should get a video of that surge, I'd love to see the effect that has.

PS. Amazing underwater mural project. I did a similar thing for my son before he was born, got an underwater theme in his room. That picture where you're looking up the ceiling and seeing the waves is amazing, whoever did the artwork for that room has some serious talent. Wish I could hire you to do my next project up here, that's some seriously nice work.

Thanks, Who knows what it has been through, but it seems to look healthy, but you never know. I going to try to offer it a small silverside tonight. Only time will tell. Im keeping a very close eye on it...and my fingers crossed that it takes to its new home.

Thanks, I airbrushed that room for my baby boy, right before he was born, he is 4 months now.

I have some free time tonight, I will try to post some vids of the tank, and current pictures.

UPDATE: It is now eating (silversides) Here are some pics I just took.

delphinus - here is a video of the surge, forgive my video skills, but I wanted to get close up of it. The file is 14MB, so I hope you have broadband.

There can be no doubt it's gigantea after those pics.

And it's looking really well so far. Looking really well. Hope the trend continues.

Cool video. Shows the surge is enough to lift the skirt of the carpet. Wow you have a lot of rose's in there :p

Great surge tank in action. Beautiful anemones. I am interested in how these anemones interact with each other.

 Lets hope they dont. I started with 1 CB RBTA, and it has morphed into 7 over a year and a half. Im defininanty at my quota for anemones. The BTA seem to stay on there side of the tank. My hoddoni found a spot at the other end and hasnt moved. There should be plenty of spots for the gigantea in the center of the tank, if it wants more light, or current, hopefully it will go upwards.
