I-Tech Skimmer Club .

I'm hoping some of you guys with experience with these skimmers can give me some advice. I have a 160g display with a 75 g sump that is sps dominate. I currently have a medium to high bioload with the fish I have and the fact that my 2 rbtas turned into 6 rbtas in the past two weeks.

I talked with John and he recommended either the 200 or 400 for my system. I just wanted to see what some of you guys are using and what you'd recommend for me, as no one locally has and I-tech skimmer.

I have a I-Tech 200 with the Sicce pump on a 120 tank with a 30 gallon sump and I think that it is oversized for my tank, it takes about 2 days to start making skimmate after cleaning the cup, I only have softies with two large fish and two small fish.

I have an I-Tech 200 with a Tunze 9420 hydrofoamer on my 150 mixed reef with a large sump (200 gl total water volume). I also have a medium load and think the skimmer is sized perfectly. I had an I-Tech 100 and was thinking of just keeping it but come across the 200 so couldn't resist.

My 200 came with the Sicce pump but was noisy and has some start up issues, I bought the new Tunze pump...what a difference! I get 3/4 cup of nice dark skimate a day.

If I were you, Id do the 200 unless you have upgrade plans or going to connect multiple systems.

I think you'd be fine with the 200. I've got the 200 w/ Tunze pump on a ~110 g (total volume) that's pretty heavily stocked, mostly sps. The 200 is great, but I think the 100 might actually be a better fit on my system.

I have a 150g tank with a 30g sump, medium bioload and run a 200 and my tank has never been cleaner. I switched from an ASMG3. I didn't have room in my sump for the 400. If you have the space, I'd go for the 400.

I might become part of the club soon, I've been offered the I-Tech 100 body(no pump) for 100$CAD, it's used but seems like it's in good condition. I don't know if I can get the Tunze Hydrofoamer pump in Canada, so I'm wondering if you guys could suggest a good alternative.

Edit: Could the I-Tech 100 skim a 100 gallon heavily stocked mixed reef?

Long story short yes.

Elmer's TOTM has/had one.

You should be able to get Tunze products there right?

I think it will depend on how heavy you feed you tank, if you feed on heavy side 100 may not be enough, otherwise should be fine. You should be able to buy Tunze via some US online retailer, these are good pumps stable and quiet.

Lately I have been pretty busy, has not clean my cup for 3 weeks, check out 'attachment' from neck:

I just put my new I-tech 100 in my new sump. I'm getting micro bubbles out of the skimmer exit and they're getting picked up by the reurn pump and into the display tank. Is this normal when new, or am I doing something wrong? If normal, how long does it last?

Should only last a couple of days...as soon as it's slimed up the majority should stop. Do you have to output turned away from the return? That may help as to give the bubbles a chance to disapate a little before getting to the return. Also, is your sump water level dead in the center of your output and stabe? This may also have an effect. Personally I don't think you'll have a long term problem. Good luck.

Outstanding service, buy from them with confidence

Outstanding service, buy from them with confidence

I just bought an I-tech 100 2 days ago, although I'm impressed with the construction and very pleased so far it's to soon to honestly say how well it works.

However I can comment on the customer service.

I purchased a small custom sump and a siphon box at the same time as the skimmer. I'm having a small issue with the flow from the box to the sump (noisey and surging). I e-mailed John, the owner Late on Saturday evening. Sunday AM there was a reply. I replied to that and about 1/2 hour later there was another reply. We worked back and forth via e-mail for awhile then I had to go to work (yup I work Sundays). I checked my email later in the day while at work and John had replied and gave me his number and permission to call that evening to try to get it straightened out.

You should know, They are closed on Sunday and this is John's day off (I suspect his only day off), yet he helped throughout the whole day and into the evening.

This level of service is extremely difficult to find these days, and I come from a looooong career in retail management. I am a very new customer for this company, ( I did spend a considerable amount of money with them) I only found them about 3 weeks ago, but I will be a customer of theirs as long as I'm in the hobby. I already liked this store, because they actually stock some high end product, where most have to order it, but this service has just put them way over the top.
