I-Tech Skimmer Club .

Hey Guys, I got a problem. My sicce pump has always had problems starting up. Today my power must have gone out and the pump must have been tryin to start all day. I cannot get it started. I opened it up and the pinwheel spins freely of the magnet, is the impellar shot? or do you think the pump burned out?

Use this as an opportunity to upgrade to the Tunze Hydrofoamer pump

Thank you for completely ignoring the question. Do you guys think it is the impellar? I cannot get the thing started again for the life of me. I rigged my sedra 3500 to it for now.

Got in contact with John. He thinks it is the impellar, i gotta check it out when I get home. He is backordered on the tunze pumps.

greggnyce If your pump will not restart after a power outage I think it would be better to have GFI on it that way it will not run in neutral and overheat the pump and impeller. A impeller is a lot cheaper then a new pump, I would of loved to get the tunze pump but it wasn't available at the time I got my 200.

Same here, I got mine before the option for the tunze. How does a GFCI stop the pump from running? I thought they only trip if there is a short or something.

When you have a power outage the GFI will trip, you will have to reset it for the pump to go back one. I lost my sons 33 gallon tank due to to this the whole tank was on a single GFI and when we had a power outage it did not come back on. So now I run at least one circulating pump encase we have a power outage.

My space is limited 12X14 and I'd like the 200. Anyone see any issues with that? The new 200 is able to hold the pump internally giving it a smaller footprint.

I am using an I-Tech 100 on a tank w/140 gallons total water volume with 5 medium tangs and HEAVY feedings. Its an all SPS tank. I'm VERY happy with the I-Tech performs. P04 is constantly < .03 Hanna and 0 nitrates. 10% water changes every week. I get about 1/2 cup full of BLACK skim after 4 days skimming.

I think if I had a bigger tank I would use a bigger I-Tech. My opinion 150gal is max for the 100 model.

I'm picking up a 150 (5x2x2) on Saturday, I already have an I-Tech 100 with the Tunze pump I know it's close...I was planning on max'ng the 100 with that much water volume.

Do you think I'm flirtin' with disaster or merely pushing the envelope?

If I wasn't worried about overflowing the skimmer cup (I work out of town thru the week) I would think you should be ok. Just keep an eye on nutrients. JMO...

Or we can trade, I have a I-Tech 200 with the Sicce on my 120.

When I go out of town I run the skimate into a gallon container. John put a JG fitting in the bottom of the skim cup and allows lots of skimming without the worry of overfilling.

Do you have a stop **** on it so that you can use the cup when your not away? I can't seem to find something to close it off.

In relation to the output on the skimmer (and not inches of water level) Is it best to have the output submerged or not?
