I received a needle wheel up grade from I-Tech , for my Beast ( The I-Tech XL ) . The thing is pulling in even more air now . I can hardly believe this thing . With the original needle wheel The Dwyer air flow meter was reading 80 , now look at what it's pulling .

I have to get a watt meter this week , to see how many watts the motor is pulling .

I know from before , the air flow meter does restrict the air flow some , because when we put the air flow meter on the intake the watts went up some . I want to see if there is a difference now .

Have you tested your with an air flow meter? Yours has the Askoll 1500 i believe...correct me if im wrong...:->

I've got a 90g heavy load mixed reef that is need of a new skimmer. I also have a Eheim 1250 meshwheel'd mod/volute from ATB. Anyone have a recommendation of what skimmer would possibly match with this great pump? It's silent, efficient, and is begging to be used. Could it push a medium? What is the build time (est)...can someone pm me an approx $.

It seems to me John is overload with demand on this skimmer so i am not sure what's the build time. i check with John regularly on the large but it has been a few weeks but John still haven't get me the pictures yet.

As for the price, I think someone had already put the price back in page 2 or 3 so I figure it should be OK to post it here again. The prices are skimmer only (without pump) I believe:

Small: $300
Medium: $400
Large: $500
Super Beast: $1300

thx szhuo...misssed that...too many skimmers to keep up with :)

oh totally. fortunately for me, i have pretty much nailed down to 3 skimmers for my ~150g (~200g total) and the I-Tech is the leading candidate. :)

Lookin at these is making me doubt my Euroreef loyalties...

Been there already and back. My current skimmer is a "Franken-Reef" I built a year ago.... The new model will be similar to these cone skimmers or a 'Volcano' style. After seeing it in action at John's store, most smaller to mid-level skimmers might have some serious competition.

Have you put a meter on your 1250? If so, that will guide you as to which skimmer to go for. Based upon my reading and experiences with a modded 1250, I'd say that pump would fit best on the small/100.

Hope that helps,
Chris

What pump are you using with the small?, any pictures - please

tks

I just happen to have an aquabee from an old skimmer I am going to try to use. I guess its the same thing. Its a few years old. If it doesn't work I will get a new one. The Aquabee is the one that John reccomends for the small.

I will try and get some good pictures of it tomorrow.

thx flatbroke...that's what I expected, but hoped it might do for a medium. don't have an air meter to check though.

If you wanted to go Medium, you could probably sell your ATB modded 1250 (a very nice pump by the way) for more than enough to buy a Sicce or possibly Tunze 9420. I'd put a meter to the 1250 before I sold it though.

Food for thought: if I recall, the TOTM runs around 130gal of system volume using the small/100. It's a 90gallon display. That might be pushing it too close, and I'm sure the medium would probably pull more nog, but if you're on a budget and really want to run the ATB 1250, maybe the small/100 would work for your application. Of course, emailing John is the best bet to get a solid recommendation as he builds/knows the skimmers.
