Glad to know that the product is made here in North America and yet it's reasonable in cost!
I just don't get it when the you look at the components of a skimmer and then the price. Just does not make any sense. I often take a long look at a product and always has difficulty dishing out the cash...Especially when it's been imported from the east!

I'm using the 400 on my heavily stocked 300 gallon tank, 125 gallon sump plus reactors, etc. It is perfect for my setup.

I hear ya brother! I've often thought the same thing. We're not talking break throught technological advances here, just improving on an existing design, copying, tweaking and tuning. I'm not trying to discount what you get with some of these "high-end" skimmers but when I see skimmers over $1,000, you gotta really start to wonder about the mark-up. It's got to be huge. I'm 99% sure my next skimmer will be an i-Tech. Excellent quality, great customer service reputation, responsive (they handle customer inquiries very quickly) and made at a fair price by hard working folks right here in the USA. I think what these guys are doing is fantastic. These guys remind me of the reasons I bought my Reef Devil II from AE Tech ten years ago, service, fair price, quality product made here in the USA. Keep cranking out those skimmers!! I also support free trade, so bring on the Tunze pumps!!!;)
 
thanks mflamb I also think the 400 may be the way to go, John was saying to go with the superbeast but I wasnt sure. What would be the best possible pump to stick on it?
 
John's recommendation is not solely base on gallons. did you tell John what you are planning to stock as well?

i told John i will have a 150g and you figure a medium will be enough but he recommended the large because my system will be sps heavily stock with ~40 active small fish (i am planning to feed through out the day as well because of my fish selection) and a large sump.
 
Yes I told him it is SPS dominated with a heavy bioload, but mflamb has a similar sized system and a similar bioload and hees getting incredible skimmate with the 400 while the super beast after a week has very little.
 
so you already get a superbeast? if so, how does your tank look like param-wise? what about your corals and fish? i think that will be better indication of whether the superbeast is over or under skimming your tank.

You do not know what you are talking about. The new Hydrofoamers are going to be entirely different pumps, from front to back, top to bottom inside and out. They will not be psk-2500s. Not that there is anything wrong with the Sicces ... I love them.
 
From my understanding they are very similar. And I agree with GSMguy. THats what I have heard as well.
 
It's not a knock on the new pump but it's not going to be less powerfull than the old hydrofoamer that would make no sense.

I've often read that larger = better with skimmers. I agree to an extent, but HUGE is NOT always better. A 'conservative' size is a better approach. You have to determine if the size is conservative for your system. There are limits to performance achieved with huge skimmers. You might be able to throw 150SCFH through a huge skimmer, but if it's on a 20gal long with 2 clowns??? There are definite 'zones' of efficiency wrt skimmer size and bioload.

Just b/c you may upgrade tank size in the near future, that larger skimmer can shoot your skimming in the foot if your outside the sweet spot.

This is just my experience with custom DIY skimmers.

thanks deathwish the superbeast is a monster skimmer but its built to be used on a 600 gallon system which is only 100g more than mine. I do prefer using the askoll, laguna, and sicce pumps over the reeflo. But if the superbeast will be more efficient I will go with that
 
I have a friend that run a orca 250 on his 200 system. He can't even get corraline algea to growth. I told him to downgrade to a smaller one
 
Well I have been silent enough. If I upgrade to a 200gal or 300gal tank I'm going to buy another 100 or maybe have 3 100's for a 300gal system. It's that good and frankly I think they got lucky on the design of the 100 I have not seen a skimmer skim like this one pound for pound.
