I-Tech Skimmer Club .

So I'm curious.... how is the build quality on these. It sort of trips me out to see beads of glue these days, but that does not really have anything to do with performance.

Also, how do I-tech compare to others? Seems the following is a little fanatical, but it is hard to find comparisons.

This is not trolling at all. Seems the I-Techs have a lot of buzz and a good design. Just seems a little different.

Aren't those are PVC welds?...H&S uses similar "beads" on their seams if I am not mistaken, and I am very pleased with the build quality of my 90-F1000.

I'd love to see an objective performance comparison of the iTech 100 (with Tunze pump) to a stock Euro Reef RS80. The height and air intake of those skimmers are very similar. The iTech runs at well under half the wattage, and appears to have much less turbulence, which are two big advantages, but is it worth twice the amount of $$$?

I also read more of this long thread. I get it. It's cool. I'm all for someone trying to build a better mouse trap.

Skimmer performance is such a subjective subject. Seems everyone thinks theirs is the greatest. Same as other hobbies too. Let's not even get into which fart can gives better horse power, or which is better 9mm or .45. Glad everyone like theirs.

If you want a non slanted comparison on any I Tech skimmer, the best thing to do is to purchase the skimmers you want to compare, and put them to work.

I for one have used several skimmers, some work better than others, and at the moment the one that is working for me is an I Tech.

Buying and comparing is a little impractical. But I see plenty of people with plenty of experience with others that are happy with their I-tech.

It's when you are a rookie in a hobby like me that you are at the mercy of taking someone else's word for it. You always have to take things with a grain of salt. I use Instant Ocean :D

Thanks for your input.

Why be at the mercy of anyone, join a local club or find people in your area that are in the hobby. Look at their setups, ask them what has worked for them. I'd say research, but in this hobby research only gets you but so much info. I've found that by looking and checking other reefers tanks you can learn more, in this way you can see first hand the results of their equipment and their husbandry, both good and bad.

Thanks. I did get in touch with our local club. Very helpful. I work rotating shifts and have not been able to go to a monthly meeting yet. I have got some frags though and checked out their stuff. Very good advice.

mojo does all kinds of skimmer comparisons, you might ask him as I seen him lurking around this thread a while ago. Maybe he already has the info your looking for?

Tank of the months are very helpful so is clicking on the red house to see other people stuff. Almost all succesful aquariums have good equipment and better habits.

I see that you have a WM K2 Cone skimmer, which uses a lot of glue. The I-tech is put together using heat welded PVC just like Bubble King and ATB.

Let us know which pump you get and what tank volume you put in.

rose - Thanks! I sure did, I was up in the air with this and a vertex. John has been so nice and friendly and hes down in Fl which is very close.

Its going to go on my 35g with a 10ish gallon sump. I've heard nothing but good things so I figured what the hell! Just ordered my Tunze ATO so I should have no problem with keeping the water level where it should.

I'll post pictures next week. Stay tuned.

-Dave
