Hey all... not so new to aquarium keeping but it's been a long time since I was in the hobby. I'm thinking of trying a reef (small) and I've been reading the forums here full of usefull info so I thought I would join the party.

Harveymeister,

It's pretty normal for the water to be cloudy for a while depending on your filtration and how you introduce the substrate. I'm sure it will clear up shortly. J
ust let your filter do it's job

Hi! I'm new to this forum and this hobby. I want to start it recently, but I need to learn how to start first, so I'm here to learn something.

Hey everyone. I'm Bryce. Just joined. On a mission to learn all I can before I start up a reef system for the first time. I have a 55gal freshwater community system I established a little over a year ago. Fell in love with the hobby, learned you can go overboard easy. I've been reading a lot online, watching a lot of YouTube videos, emailing various reef tank supply stores, and have found there's a handful of right answers to the same questions (a handful of wrong ones too). Basically, I've learned that I can talk with a lot of people with much more experience than me, get their opinions and what worked for them, and then make my own educated decision.
That being said, I welcome AND appreciate any and all knowledge you all may have and are willing to offer to the questions I have as they arise. Thank you all, in advance :)

hello every one im Crystal, Im new to the salt water hobby. I have a 55gal tank, My friend recently gave me one of his anemone and got it home placed it in my tank and one of my power heads sucked it up right through the front...How this happend i have no clue. the whole top of the anemone was facing the power head and now the tentacles are very short. Is it dead now, is there any hope of saving it? What do I do. I did a five gallon WC because thats what I had on hand, upped my protein skimmer and took the little guy out of the tank. The only think left in my tank are some Damsels that were my pilot fish. Am I ok?

Hi Everyone,
just got back in to marine keeping about a year ago after a 15 year break can't belive how things have changed.
things are so much easier now with forums on the web for help and the advances in technology and understanding in filter systems.
any way now have a old D&D 24g modified with a external power filter as an external pump (no media), lighting replaced with a TMC 1000 reef white LED tile and a diy made phosphate filter.
will be upgrading to a Aqua One 300 tank shortly.

New to Reef Central

Greetings! I'm a relatively new reefer, but I feel I've gone through a lot in the 1.5 years since starting in this hobby. My first tank was a BioCube which was a disaster. I eventually bought another BioCube and did some extensive mods to it by taking out the back wall, drilling the back glass and installing bulkheads and a drain and return from a custom sump I made to fit the cube's stand.
My second tank was a FOWLER 75 gal I tried running with two Fluval canister filters. That didn't work and I wanted corals so I drilled that tank as well and installed a sump and finally got some good lights. So that's where I am, just starting a large (for me) reef tank. Having some issues with cycling and my skimmer but I hope to work through all that.
Hope to get some good advice here and maybe contribute my limited knowledge to someone else someday.

Hi guys,

I'm Chris and i'm from belgium.

I just started a tank of 55 gallons one week ago, one year of reflexion before to start.

Cheers,

Chris

New and need guidance

Hello all you wonderful fish crazies! I am so excited! I have finally made my first step towards getting into the saltwater world. I'm not new to the fish world but I am new to the saltwater world. I have lots of ideas but not sure how or where to start. Like I said, I just purchased a tank yesterday( bringing it home today). It is a 90 gallon glass with a stand. So now I need to figure out where and how to go from here. I want to have corral, fish, and other critters. I would like the live sand. Also some easy but colorful critters. So with that being said, I have done some inquiries but I don't have a clue with start ups really. I would love for some generous soul to take me under their wing and get me safely started. Please help me.

Greetings!

I am Simon from Calgary (Alberta, Canada) and I have been keeping fish for over 15 years but 'just' got into the saltwater. I have a 250Gal FOWLR tank that is reef ready (well, the tank and equipment are, but my fish would likely eat it up!).

My other tanks are a 100Gal planted community tank and I am in the middle of shutting down my 45 Gal fresh water tank. I only want to have two tanks, I have too many other hobbies as well so my time is already at a premium.

Hi just wanted to say hello again. I was listed under Bike2k but I really needed to change my name and email account. Looking forward to continuing the relationship.

hello, my name is Ernest, i live in Chicago IL, i have about 5yrs experience with saltwater aquariums. I always had a fish only tank (35gal) but have started getting into reef tanks about 9 months ago. I also have a 90gal oceanic bow front (never set up since i do not have the room for it). This is also my first forum that i joined so im very excited as to what it has to offer.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone

Hello :)
I already introduced myself but in the wrong area so I'm reposting here. Just want to say hello and introduce myself and my tank. I've posted my progress on several websites and I enjoy the feed back and information from all of them. My tank is a 60 gal tank 48x13x24. I do not have a sump or a ref due to lack of money and space to be honest. I couldn't afford to go for all the bells and whistles so to speak. I was going to call this the poor mans tank build but that didnt seem fair.Even though I've tried to save money it quickly adds up and I'm over $1000.00. The tank was $200.00 with a stand. Sand, heater supply's to start tank $150.00,live rock 65lbs $475.00,lighting $400.00. im running led lights. One http://www.ecoxotic.com/panorama-marine-led-system.html and one reef bright double bright led. not a bad set up for 4 bills. The only reason I mention the cost is even though people say "I don't want to spend money or I need to do this cheap" in order to get into saltwater your going to have to spend some cash.
Here's my set up.

60 gallon glass tank,60 lbs live sand to start tank. ran tank for 6weeks before adding 60 lbs of fully cured live rock. 1 1250 gph K circ pump,HOB FILTER 450 gph,Reef Octopus 1000 HOB skimmer,200 watt heater and no sump or refugium.

I started my tank on 1/8/13 and it hit 3 months on 4/8/13. My livestock list is as follows.
Midas Blenny
Flasher Wrasse
Citron Goby
Banded sleeper goby
1 Truepercula clown
1 Ocelaris clown
2 peppermint shrimp
Some orange zoa's
Several green mushrooms which I've fragged
I Frog Spawn
1GBTA
Several hermits

This particular group of fish all get along great and there's no aggressions in the tank as of yet. I haven't had anything bad happen yet and my only real issue has been some green algae on the glass. I do tank cleaning and water changes once a week. I do 15 gallons a week water changes, plus siphoning and cleaning. Nothing all crazy just mellow tank maintnance so I don't disturb everything to much. After my initial first true cycle I haven't had a bad water check yet. I do water tests once a week and so far I have not had any issues. I have not tested for cal or alk but I will be picking up test kits.

This is my second saltwater tank ever my first being about 7 years ago. Then I had a refugium and my tank plus a filter. No skimmer and no corals or anything. Just a BTA a Blue trigger and a Snowflake Eel. That tank lasted about a year then we moved and I couldn't take it. Well now that I can havea tank where I live here iam. :D

Here's some pictures. :bounce3:
