Hi everybody,
New to the site and very new to the hobby. Been visiting this site for a while reading and learning. I have a fluval edge 12g running for a month with LR, LS a serpent star some snails and 4 crabs. I am waiting for my Highbrite lite to come so I can start getting some corals and a couple fish. Looking for advise, as to what to get. I have a koralia power-head and I would love to have corals that showcase flowing movement.
suggestions and advise very welcomed.

I am in love with this hobby...

Hello Good Morning! Just joined the community yesterday, joined the hobby march 16....super n00b!!! but i absolutely love it, ohhhh how it is keeping my stress at bay during finals! I have 2 tanks, an evolve 8 and a 29 biocube HQI. EVERYTHING I have done with the evolve since day 1 is wrong and the fact that anything is alive in there is a miracle. I have suffered some losses that have really broken my heart and taught me lessons. The Biocube was set up 4/11 and is cycling with live rock and sand....going to do that one right...i know most of you know how bad it hurts to see a beautiful coral go brown/shrivel/bail/etc. I have learned an INSANE amount of information over the last month and am eager to always continue learning and doing more. If any of you work with different clubs/organizations for volunteering or conservation work, please let me know I would love to help in any way I can. Save our oceans and we just might save ourselves :) Have a great weekend Reefer Heads.

Hello - I am new to this hobby and I'm already in way over my head! I bought a 3 gallon table top aquarium from an online site for my wife's birthday because she wanted a clown fish. I didn't do any research and when the aquarium came in, I immediately picked up two clown fish, 5 lbs of living sand, a few colorful coral inserts and thought I was good to go.

We lost one of the clown fish 3 days later and I bought a 29G biocube, more live sand, several pounds of living rock, and without waiting to "cycle" the tank - I transfered my surviving clown fish to the new tank in order to save his life.

That was three months ago - the clown is alive and well and I have a few friends in the tank with him now. I can see this is going to be an expensive hobby for me - but its too late, I'm hooked!

I'm currently dealing with too high of nitrates in the tank and I can't seem to keep the temperature of the tank down (it runs 80-84). I'm sure there are other places in this forum to post my problems - so for this "intro", I'll just say:

HI, My name is Dale and I'm a marine-a-holic!

Hi new member here my name is James and I live on vancouver Island british columbia canada, just purchased 125 gallon marine tank privately from a gentleman who's had it since 1997, I was just wondering if anyone could give me some info or tips on moving the tank. There is a substantial amount of live rock in it and a rock (coral) bed in it.I don't live very far from where the tank is and I was wondering can i put the rock in right away or should I wait a few days? There is only one fish in the tank its a 14 year old. Yellow tang I was wondering if I should wait to put that back in to and if not will it live for a couple days in a small tank?

New to Reef Central

Just wanted to say hello. I have really enjoyed reading many threads in this forum over the last couple months.

Friend of mine is moving and had to give up a 90 and 75 gallon tank. The 90 is running fresh water while the 75 was empty.

The 75 is being set up at my brother in-law's house so he can take all the inhabitants from the 90.

The 90 is looking a little naked as many of the plants have been moved to the 75 already. Soon as the move is complete, the 90 will start it's conversion to salt. I think I caught the bug again in a bad way. It's been 15 years since I have had a salt water aquarium, but am looking forward to getting one going again.

Hey all, I'm Scott. Just a few months in with my 65g tank and love it...using it as a learning tool with my 10 year old as well. We are going slow but everything seems to be flourishing

Hello my display name obviously gives it away.
Super new to the hobby. Going to give up my fresh water cichlid tank and start for the first time a salt water aquarium. I've sold all my cichlids only 6 to begin with anyway. My uncles are big time salt water guys and I have finally gave in. Going to be using a 55gal long no overflow or return just yet. A local fish guy in town is willig to drill for the price of $182 bucks. At the moment I dont have the cash to get a 65-80 gal tank yet. I also live in Alaska. So my 55gal fresh will do for now. And I will be using my 30gal for sump. Now Im just so confused with the whole sump pump, lights and the multiple tanks underneathe the display tank (Refugium, live rock, Algae tanks). I try to call and keep in touch with my uncles but they are from So-Cal and im in Alaska. So talking to them on the phone wont do me much good. But I will continue with research as i know salt water is nothing but patience and money. Im in no rush. What equipment do I need? (Specifically) Im planning to start a reef in my 55gal. Another question. Will the salt eat through the sealant in the tank over time? Im new to this hobby and im sure I will love it.

New to Hobby

Hi all, I wanted to introduce myself. I spent the last 3 weeks reading a lot on this forum while setting up a new tank. I initially was going to setup an A. Cichlid tank and purchased a wet/dry system. Within a few days my cousin convinced me to go with a saltwater setup. I've always wanted such a setup but figured it was beyond what I can do. I've since upgraded the sump and switched out the lights on the tank. I got a decent sump, a good skimmer, and a pretty good light. The tank has been up for about 3 weeks now. I figure another 3 weeks to complete cycle before I can add my first fish!
I'm looking forward to learning a lot from everyone and also welcome any feedback.

The New Guy

I just want to say Hi to everyone in here. My name is Yee and I am from Sacramento, California. I just recently started this hobby of collecting corals and, by far, i really like it. I've been looking around the threads and have seen many beautiful and awesome looking corals! I look forward to posting up my own corals to share with you guys.

Hello all.. my little girl (9) and I joined this site to achieve a goal that's been a dream of ours. We have a 55g tank and a semi-vision of what we want. We both know how much reading we'll have to study up on and are looking forward to the next few weeks when we'll finally be ready to add our 1st fish. Ultimately, we'd like a white sandy bottom tank, with some corals and Anemone, some clown fish, a tang, maybe some hermit crabs. I'd like something she can be proud of. She's one of these kids that are up to any challenge and I really don't see her having any problems... Stone

Finally decided to join a forum

Hello from central Texas. I started this addiction almost two years ago and spread it to my girl friend and her parents. Now, we have a combined 6 tanks here (4 salt, a fresh, and a betta :headwally:) and her parents just started a 29g. Finally decided to pull the trigger and join a forum and, hopefully, start a blog on a seahorse nano reef later in the week with strong diy in the filtration (hate their filter systems but love building stuff.) It's always fun to do and see y'all in the forums.

New Tank and Hobby!

New Tank and Hobby!

I have been thinking about a saltwater tank for a while now and finally made up my mind on what type of tank; Innovative Marine Nuvo 38. It's due to be delivered May 6th and I am pumped! Here are a few things that I have bought so far (I need suggestions on "must-haves"):

IM Nuvo 38 Tank
IM Nuvo Tank Stand
IM Protein Skimmer (mid-size)
IM MiniMax Reactor (mid-size)
IM Spin Stream (x2)
Skkye Light 24'' Dimmable Dual Strip LED
Nuvo Media Sponges (x3)
40 lb bag of Nature's Ocean Live Sand...

Near Future plans:

Live rock (have no idea what kind but I plan on anemones later in tank life)

Cleaner Crew (still researching which kind are the best to have and when to put them in the tank, suggestions?)

Test Kit

ATO (This is a maybe, I heard the are nice though)

Somewhat hardy fish (love angel fish, but after that not sure what to add)

So pretty preliminary stages right now...will most likely do a build thread to track progress.

Suggestions?

I already introduced myself on her username was Rentalcoot but for some reason not letting me log in. Just wanted to show you my tank so far. 54 gal corner using Fluval 405 powerhead 1250 thinking about switching because my sand is getting blown. Has over flow but not using it right now, has a tiny leak so need to fix it. Just received my 120watt LED not dimmable. Opinion on if the light is too high? I have 60lbs of live sand. 30lbs of base rock, with 60lbs live rock. I have about 20-30 more lbs in my 14 gal which I will put in after cycling.

I started cycling April 22 so patiently waiting for cycling to complete.

Opinions welcome thanks.

Hey...just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking for a while and currently have a freshwater setup. I've finally decided to take the saltwater plunge. I'm going to start with a 55 gallon setup but plan on upgrading to a 120 sometime next year.
