Learning the ropes

Learning the ropes

I am Heidi from Binghamton, Love the ocean always have always will. It's always been my dream to have a reef tank. My wonderful husband and I started fish keeping about three years ago at the moment I have two tanks a 55 gallon african cichlid tank and a 40 gallon south american community with guppies, an angel, two rams, and some cory catfish, oh and two otos. Now my husband has suggested I move up to saltwater and we are both very excited, I know it's a whole new ball game but I love to learn and am looking forward to this new adventure.

Another new guy here, I've never kept a saltwater tank before, over the years I've kept cichlid tanks, and currently into planted tanks.

I've recently acquired a 120g (4'x2'x2) and a bubble magus skimmer to start my journey into the salt world, can't wait to get started! Any info for a slub just starting out is greatly appreciated.

I find myself researching this site for hours on end, and I'm extremely excited about starting this journey.

Hi everyone, my name is Art and live in the western suburbs of Chicago. A carpenter for 20 years and love to fish.Iam new to the hobby and RC. I have a 72 gl bow with a few of the easy keeping corals like mushrooms, zoos, and a leather. Also in there is a stripped wrasse, dragon goby, diamond goby ,coral beauty. Needless to say I have a lot of questions so don't be surprised to see me in the future :).Iam trying to do my homework on lighting before I post the same things others have already asked/answered since iam in need of replacing the power compact fixture ASAP .I don't have a chiller so think MHs' shouldnt be an option so iam torn between LEDs' and T5s'

Just think about how much bulb changes will cost you in the future. Then just go get some controlable LEDs.

This Forum is awesome! Im a complete beginner and this community has been so helpful. I started a 29G Nano in November and finally ready for livestock. Patience in this hobby is difficult and I hope its worth it. I'll start a Nano Progress thread so you guys can chip in with advice or follow on how a newbie is doing.

I am in the process of setting up my very first salt water tank. I'm starting out with 55 gallons and if this goes well I plan to add a bigger tank. Right now we just have salt water and sand going through the cycling process.

Hi I am Billy new to Reef Central and new to saltwater aquarium well I did have one about 20 years ago but a lot of things have change may need to ask stuff from time to time

Hello all.

I'm new to the site. came here for some information on setting up a reef tank. I currently have three freshwater tanks, a 150g tall, 45g converted breeder with sump, and a 10g hospital.

Im in the process of converting my 150g(t) tank into a saltwater reef with 45g sump housing a RD-180 skimmer, BP reactor, Carbon reactor.

Hi! I had a 55g planted freshwater tank for almost 3 years. It broked a year ago and now I'm planning to replace it with a reef tank between 90g and 120g!

Hello! total newb to reef tanks and salt water in general. I wanna learn though because I love some of the oceans critters and one of my goals is eventually to be knowledgeable enough to have a mantis shrimp. I hope I learned from experience as a kid never impulse buy (well in my case impulse collect) animals. When I did that I ended up killing my gold fish or my frog or bug or whatever I had caught. Same applies to things you buy. Learn learn learn and learn and then get.

Hello all!

I'm new to reef central been on salt city for about 3 years now. Been in the hobby 4 years now started with a 55gal then a 93 cube and now I have a 4ft 120gal and a 24 nano. Started with t5s went to a DIY custom led build on my 93 then went to 250watt halides over my 120 now. Mixed reef for the most part but I now have the sps bug and planning on going all sps. I'm in the thought process of going to radion LEDs over my 120 for color and control. I may try and pick up a 200gal dd then do radions and t5s over it well see what the ol lady lets me get.

That's about all my history in the hobby I really enjoy this hobby the ocean is an amazing world!

Hello,

New to RC and salt! I've been keeping vivarium/terrarium and planted fresh water for several years but finally decided to take the plunge into SW. I have a new custom tank coming from GC's in a few weeks so I'm soaking up as much as i can before it arrives.

Boxes of goodies have been piling up for a few days. Just waiting on a tank now to get this started :)

Hi, I am new to Reef Central and to reef tanks. I have been around Freshwater for 30 years now. I have a 90 gal freshwater with angels & discus and my wife & I decided to get a 100 gal bowfront salt tank for Christmas. I went to the LFS and had them set it all up. It has been running for a few weeks now and we just added 4 Chromis and a Firefish. All is going well so far. Looking forward to adding more fish, anemones and coral. Just being patient and letting the tank age and settle in.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this kind of thing. We don't really do much technology but do read all your posts regularly. Hubby never uses computer so it's down to me to ask all the questions. He does all the equipment stuff and I do the nice bits, i.e. Placement and telling him what to do. We have kept marines for Many years on and off and things have changed so much. We recently bought an eheim 460 marine and absolutely love it. However the hood and lights are not that great. Thinking of getting razor 300w led. Anyone have one or any thoughts.

Greetings from the Triad, NC. I've been out of the hobby since 2010 ish minding my own business. Then Triad Reef Cridders opens accorss the street from my job. Next I make the mistake of stopping by one evening on the way home from work. This afternoon I'll be digging through and testing the empty tanks in the shed to see which if any will still hold H2O. Go Chiefs.

Hi all. I am brand new to the hobby. Just bought a 90 gallon that my girlfriend and I are going to set up and watch it grow. I guess you can say it will be our "child." I am sure I will ask a bunch of questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for having us and I look forward to this experience. :-)
