If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello from a SW noob!

Hello from a SW noob!

Hello everyone, I am new SW tanks. I just got a 37 gallon tank I would like to set up with corals. I've been doing a lot of researching before I even begin my adventure on setting it up. As of now all I have is the tank, so the rest I will be picking up within the next several months. I am glad I found this place and look forward to getting experienced opinions and the help needed for my reef tank to thrive.

Take care of yourselves.

Jon here....(aka DesertJon).....from northwestern AZ. I am coming back to reefing as retirement is just over the horizon and I want to be able to get my hands on as much research as possible to answer those questions I already have. I am leaning towards a frag tank at the onset and most likely will be bugging anyone who has some information that will prove to be of value. As I am in somewhat of a "rural" area, I will initially be looking to find some decent resources for frags (softies (anthelia, xenia, etc.) and SPS.
Thanks for this forum. It is a great resource. DJ

Hi All,

After tearing down my fresh water tanks a couple of years ago due to various relocations, I've decided to get back into the hobby. Since my space is limited and most of my freshwater dreams involve a 75g tank or larger, I've decided to pick up a Nuvo Fusion 40 and give salt water a shot. I've quickly discovered that fresh water and salt water are worlds apart and am in the process of reeducating myself.

I'm hopeful that the lessons I learned previously (take it slow, have a plan, buy quality equipment, and don't slack on maintenance) help me to become successful in this new endeavor.

Chris

Hello all, I'm Mike and I've been away from the hobby for at least 20 years. A few months ago I was having a conversation with a friend of mine at work and he was telling me all about his saltwater reef aquarium, well his enthusiasm was infectious and now sorry to say, i'm addicted. For the last three months I've been reading every forum and watching just about every you tube video out there and now I feel it's time to feed this habit. I've just bought a 90 gallon rimless Cube from SC Aquariums...let the journey begin and happy New Year to all.

Hello From JHB - South Africa

Hi Guys,

i'm Hannes, i stay in Johannesburg, South Africa.

i used to keep Malawi Ciclids very successfully for many years however the last 10 years i didn't keep any fish.

i recently started a small Nano cube and would over time like to turn this into a little reef.

regards,

Hey all,

Names Josh, ive been around aquariums my whole life. Grew up with freshwater tanks and for the past 5 years ive been keeping freshwater planted tanks. I currently have a 70 gallon freshwater planted tank with angel fish, a 13 gallon freshwater planted tank with minnows and guppies, and a 3 gallon freshwater plant only cube. Luckily my wife likes my hobby :p

I recently lost my pair of Axolotls which were in a 55 gal tank and im going to be converting this tank to a reef tank, this will be my first saltwater build.

I look forward to bombarding you all with questions.

Hi everyone,

My names mike I live in CT. I have 5 tanks all under 15gallons running for over 1 1/2 years so im still new. I have a bunch of different livestock from mantis shrimp in one tank to dwarf seahorses in another.

Hi, a tank enthusiast friend who has a 200 gal tank sold me his 90 gal tank, light, skimmer and about 70 lbs of live rock a few months ago. I bought a pump, sand and water.

Now I have 20 red/blue leg hermits, 2 clowns, 2 chromis, sand sifting golby, coral beauty, 2 starfish, 4 turbo snails, 3 emerald crabs and anemones.

I'm not ready for coral yet but I want to keep a nice variety of fish/rock dwellers.

Open to suggestion.

Anemone question

Anemone question

Hi to everyone, I have come as a relative newbie to ask an anemone question. I recently bought a marine setup and with it inherited a pure white anemone, I don't know what kind it is, just that it is pure white with no visible bubble tips or colour tips. Since re-setting the tank up with mainly the original water, original sand and rock, the nem moved just slightly and seems to have happily settled into a rock crevice. The nem seems happy is well extended but instead of remaining pure white is now green tinged in the centre, is this normal can anyone say please?

Hey RC
Im Kevin I live in Canada (Nova Scotia). I have been keeping South American cichilds now for over 2 years with two 65gal tanks and one 80gal. I was able to get a 110gal cube tank off my uncle a few months ago and have decided to start my first salt water tank. I am going to sell off eveything in the 80gal and use it as a sump for my 110. Looking forward to the new adventure.

Cheers

Hello Everybody

Hello Everybody

Hello, I have recently started my first fish tank it is a bow shaped 46 gallon i used about 43 pounds of reef saver dry rock and about 40 lbs of live sand. (that is estimated becuase i was given the live sand unwashed at my lfs and washed it for a few hours) i started with ro/di water with salt mixed in, sold by my lfs. i have been cycling the tank and am using a used cpr back pak protein skimmer and a cheap, old red sea pump as a power head( temporarily) i also have a 24" Satellite led + (1000 lumens) light. My bow tank i was given and relized after i put sand and rock in tank (and left town for a week) was leaking slightly at the bottom so i put everything into a slightly smaller tank while i fix the bow tank. I am planning to drill the tank after i fix it so i can use a sump instead of the bak-pak. Its been about three weeks and about to switch back to bow (after i drill and get the fittings) i just wanted to say hello and look for some direction, Becuase i have a million questions and have been reading/watching videos for countless hours last few weeks. I hope to have coral and a anemone, i would like to have two clown fish and a Red Mandarin dragonet. If possible, but anyway hello everbody!

Hi everyone, name is Edwin, from NJ, and I'm fairly new to reef keeping. I got tired of drooling over the tanks of a few friends of mine and decided to take the plunge and grab a small tank second hand about a year ago.
Ever since its been a non-stop snowball into Bigger and better tanks and equipment..ugh lol I just bought a JBJ RL45 and Radion xr15w Pro, reeflink and currently planning a DIY stand for it. And will be setting it up soon and breaking down my old setup, 17 gallon aqueon w/ 5 gallon fuge/skimmer.

After some time with experimenting on my own I look forward to learning as much as I can from everyone, and sometimes contributing what I've learned so far, Cheers
