5months on

Hi -as you will see I am only five months into this hobby . I have a nano reef -Fluval M60 . Already driven mad by skimmer noise -looking at a Tenze . Phosphates hard to bring down -stuck at 0.5 -1 despite weekly water changes of 20-10% and Roa phos in a bag. . Have ordered a phosban fluidisation canister. None the less all life forms well-til today . My tube anenome has retracted-I know they do that -but it's tube has fallen in and closed it up completely . It has at least 4 Christmas tube worms-plain dark -growing out of its tube but didn't seem to mind !
Panic over -outer tentacles have forced through since lights off. However when the lights are off I see some fast moving thin wood lice like creatures rushing around -should I worry . Many thanks .
Tank has 5 red legged hermits, 2 nassasarius snails, 2 tiger conches, 4 trochus snails -seems like hundreds of stomatellas , an emerald crab, green toadstool coral with some sort of oyster attached! , star polyp frag , blue Zoas frag, Large piece of orange dragon eye Zoas complete with two tube worms that appear healthy, a green and orange tube anenome , 3 blue yellow tailed damsels 1 chromis, 1 cleaner wrasse, 2 clown fish . Also have spaghetti worms.

Hello, certainly new here. Wasn't sure where exactly to start posting so here I am. I'm currently setting up a saltwater tank specifically for a eunice worm (I think they're amazing looking), but not much info I can find on them and although I did find a store that had one, it was preserved (and very dead).

Not really sure about what kind of environment they'd like, and i'm thinking of placing a divider into the tank (about a 55 gallon) to add something small on the other side that would probably get eaten if there wasn't a divider.

Hey RC

Hey RC

Hey everyone,

Been keeping a SW tank for 4-5 years (but not to the best of my ability). I had a 60 gallon cube but just yesterday setup a fusion lagoon 25. Nothing upgraded yet but have things in mind. I dont know anyone in the hobby so i came on here to meet some people. Look forward to getting great advise for everyone.

Regards
Mike

Hello - I'm New Here Too

Hello - I'm New Here Too

Hello everyone,

I am just dipping my toes into the Reef keeping hobby.

I live in the UK and have been successfully keeping FWT tanks, some small and a pretty large one for over 12yrs. Always wanted a SW Reef setup so, after a few years of collecting various bits & pieces ad still buying, I am embarking on a Nano set up - yeah I have read that Nano's can be demanding, but I do have the time and the patience.

Happy to be here at long last

Bye 4 now.

hi, i sm jsred.

just decided to get back into aquariums and wanted to try a reef tank out. only ever did freshwater in past. planning to read a book or two on it while reading around online what i can before beginning it.

Hello all I am new to the RC. I wanted to check in and say hello. This site seems like it is a great place to get information. I just started my tank in Feb 2016. I got my tank fully cycled and now I am ready to start getting some coral. I have 5 damsels and a blue jaw trigger. I am going to add more fish eventually i just don't know what I want to put in the tank. I was thinking of yellow tangs. Thanks for reading.

Hello!

Hello!

New to RC, 2yrs in saltwater exp. over 8 years ago. Relocated. Now I want to start back up with a Nano AIO reef tank this time around to enjoy the passion but on a smaller, affordable level.
Although the basic reef keeping is the same but I see a lot of new products around and methods are being practiced as I seen lately and would enjoy some suggestions.
I am in the process of setting up a small 23-26 gallon bow front tank.($25).
A bow front is not my preference but is was the best used tank I could find for the size and price.
I really am looking for some dry rock to start out with, I am in no rush and don't want to deal with pests in live rock. I now there's good live rock out there but I decided to want to aqua-scape this time around.

My ideal tank is in the works (on paper) lol. A DIY project. AIO NANO 21x16x16 rimless.

Best Regards Domenic
Thank you.

Hey guys... Been lurking and reading a lot for a bit now, decided to say HI! Just picked up a 75G DT off craigslist. The guy gave me a free 55G sump! A little bigger than I wanted for a sump but it was FREE!!!!

Anyways Nice to meet you all!

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum but not new to the hobby. I was hot and heavy in cichlids for a few years but got too busy and sold everything a few years ago. Now I'm back and want to get into saltwater. I am planning to pick up a 75 gallon fw tank with a 55 gal sump this friday. I know I need some essentials and have been researching like crazy! I'm trying to get into saltwater with as low a cost as possible (which is why I'm piecing together a fw tank instead of buying a sw outright). I saw the poll on here about the Sand and Rock. I see it's much cheaper to buy dry rock and dry sand. If I do so, how long would it take to cycle my tank? Also, I could probably buy some dry rock and live sand... would that speed up the cycle drastically? Is it worth it? Or could I buy one bag of live sand and the rest dry... with dry rock?

Welcome, dry rock and dry sand are a great way to go as far as prevention of undesirable elements, pests etc, I would use a piece of live rock as a seed for bacteria rather than live sand as long as you trust the source of the rock. You may also consider using some rock from a source such as Tampa bay saltwater, if you decide to go that direction. If you're unsure about your source cycling without seed rock works just as well it will just take a week or two longer. Well worth the peace of mind. You will get many opinions on this, read a lot and use your judgement.

Hello RC
I'm new to the saltwater. I've been doing FW 10gal, 30gal, and 55gal tank for 11 years. I was using a fluval 305 canister. I just bought a used 290gal tank and stand with 2 corner overflow also came with chiller, uv, halide's and T5's, skimmer asm gc9, trigger system ruby36s, blueline 70 pump, and about 300 lbs dry live rock all for $600. The guy sold it needed the money. I resealed tank 2 weeks ago. That was not fun. I thought doing a 55gal was bad. I just got my ro/di system today. Just need to set up a ro/di and saltwater mixing station and start making to start curing rock. I just drew up design for a metal stand and sent to welder to give me an estimate. The stand that came with I don't like it and looks weak and some rotting. I want something that I know that would hold the weight. I'm trying to sell the older equipment to help pay for more energy efficient equipment. So that's the story of the beginning of my adventure.

Revised
The tank is 224 gal

Hi everyone. New to saltwater. Probably going to start with a 55 gal since Petco has their $1/gal sale going on. There's a lot of great info here I'm reading, and I appreciate all of it so I don't make a mistake and have setbacks when I finally get around to starting my tank.

hey everyone!
I'm new to this with my fiancée. We started a biocube 29 about 6 weeks ago. We've put a bunch (about 30lbs live rock) with the sand. Have a Kenya tree doing well, oxide orange poly also doing well, and a nice colony of palys that are doing well. Bangai cardinal and two cleaner shrimp, serpent star fish, and some different type snails. running the coralife protein skimmer. would love advice on lighting to getting some closed corals to open back up. Parameters good, no crazy spikes or anything, but have a few polyp frags that have been closed for a while. Also running a jebao 4 pump on random mode.
