If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Howdy Everyone!
I've been a member for a week or so. I got my 1st tank for my b-day when I was 11 or 12, and the rest is history. I was hopelessly and permanently smitten by the wonder of it all. I got my 1st reef tank about 3 yrs ago--a 125 DAS, when a dear friend up and GAVE it to me! Then last year, about 12:30 am one morning, it sprang a leak and I had to tear it down. I found a good deal a couple of weeks later and that is the tank that I have now.

I found RC by reading threads doing skimmer research. Because of words of wisdom by "mojo" and Jeremy of PA, and many others, I came here and now think of it as my "reef home".

Thank you all for allowing me to be a part of this fine community. I look forward to learning from and serving others.

look forward to participating with you

Hello All,

My name is Fred, I am 44yrs. old. I have kept FW often over the years. But 2 years ago I decided to buy a 72 gal. bow front and all that the LFS said I would need to get started (yeah, he had that right "get started"). I had been on RC researching before but never joined. But was looking on Craigslist for a larger tank & a local guy had a smaller tank for sale, so I called & went to look & we talked saltwater forever. But he told me I should join. So hear I am.

Even though I have been in this for 2 years now, I am still a newbie and looking for all the help I can get.

Anyways...that's about it for now....nice to be a member!

nice to have you on board. Everyone by participating makes a contribution in some way to someone else on here

Hi Guys..

I am Mithun .. from calcutta, India. I am a freshwater hobbyist.since last 15 years (i am 26 years old). Since last 3-4 years i have been keeping couple of planted freshwater tank as well.. I am totally new to saltwater. Made a 20 gal tank with a 20 gal sump under that :P.. now i am swimming in unfamiliar water :P i have been basking in the beginner forums quite sometime now.. so now i think i am qualified enough to introduce myself here.. i need a lot of things to learn from u guys..

most of the stuffs of saltwater are banned in India.. including live rocks/live sands and almost every kind of corals the govt could identify.. leaving aside only a few button polyps and LPS. But you know things pass through.. but really difficult to get ur hands on.. specially if u are a good ol citizen :P

anyways.. good to be here

Curious---what happens if it becomes known to the wrong people that you have a big tank with 100 lbs of live rock in it? Do the police come to your house and confiscate it?

I am new to salt water. I have a 130 gallon tank I am looking at the AquaC EV180 Protein Skimmer. Can someone help me on how to size the intake and the return line from the overflow tank? What should the volumn of waterflow be for this size tank? Thanks for any help

130 gal would be better with 2 overflows. However the return would be good at 1 inch and the drain at 1.5 inches. Since the drain is gravity feed then the max flow you will get is related to the diameter of the pipe--in your case 800 gph.
You install a ball valve between your return pump and the display tank. This ball valve is used to regulate the water level in the tank and the sump.

this is just general information--it would be better if you started your own build thread and posted some pictures of your tank and sump there. That way we could give you a more specific answer

set the water level twisting open or closing the telescoping riser tube.

My name is Daniel and I used to have a 90 gallon FOWLR tank about 10 years ago. I am thinking of restarting the tank but this time as a reef tank. I am in Phoenix, Arizona and would like any assistance that I can get.

Suggest you start your own build thread here and ask the questions there---it is more visible to others there and keeps all your information in one place

police has better things to do under the table here.. its only the Airport/harbour customs officers who make our life hell to get things out even with all legal paperworks.. idea is what they cant identify are illegal and u have the liability to prove that thy are legal.. and trust me u really cant prove that in front of them.. they are not kind of smarty-pants if are guessing so.. they are just trying to make the stuffs more expensive for us (by adding their shares :fun2: ):blown:

okay I understand--thanks
so how much does live rock cost once everything is figured into the price?

almost US$5 for a lb.. and for sure not a single coral or anemone would be found on it.. such bad quality.. almost dries up in the process.. all u can hope for is some patch of coraline algae..

that's not bad we pay between 6-8 dollars a pound in Canada for premium Figi rock retail.
you are not allowed to bring live rock into Canada either--they just confiscate it and not bother trying to take a cut from it.

I'm new as the thread suggests haha. I have read on other forums that there is a local aspect to this site. I was wondering how I can find people in my area? Thanks!
