If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hey Everyone!

My name is Nick and I just got into this about 2 months ago, and set up a 50 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump/refugium.

The whole thing was DIY, which was a pain to set up but now that its mostly set up and running (with some minor kinks here and there) I love it!

I added 90 lbs of the packaged live sand and 70 lbs of live rock.

I'll admit I rushed some(maybe an understatement) and now have:
3x 4 Stripe Damsles
an Emerald Crab
a Peppermint Shrimp
3x mexican Turbo Snail
a Yellow Headed Sleeper Goby
and an assortment of other smaller snails and about 6-8 hermits

I recently added a couple of coral frags at the advice of my LFS, and am skeptical to see how they do in the coming weeks and months!

you might want to consider removing those damsels before you add other fish.Damsels can grow up to be mean sob's to the other inhabitants of the tank. The longer they are in a tank the smarter they get towards being captured.

Hello from OH-IO as well! I am new to the forums, and glad to have a place to read about reef tanks. I currently have a 46 bowfront. Some corals, a hippo tang, a purple firefish, and one clown fish. Currently battling algae, but getting helpful hints from the forums. Have a 155 bowfront in my garage that was hoping to setup, but need to sell it now :_( Look forward to reading lots more stuff here!

welcome aboard, the hippo will eventually need a bigger tank as it grows, and its a shame about the 155, that would have been a great tank

Hi there. I've been reading this forum on and off for a bit since my friend gave me one of his tanks a few months ago. Thought I would finally make a post and say hi. From what I've been reading, sounds like I probably have the smallest tank here by far. It's a 4, or maybe 5 gallon tank with a frog fish, some live rocks and sand, and now my friend just gave me a small frag of his yellow polyp and green star polyp.

Also, I just took a few pictures of my fish. Which section would be a good place to make a post and share the pictures?

Hey everybody, I just thought I would drop in here and say hello. I've been reading off this website for a few months now and I can't say how valuable it has been in getting my build off the ground. I've got a 150 custom tank that was built up north in Toronto but previous to that I put together a mahoghany stand through much of what I learned on this site.

I'm new to reefcentral and pretty new to hobby. I have had a 14g biocube now for about 3-4 months and recently purchased a 125 gallon Oceanic tank to upgrade to.

I'm a member of NJRC and plan on being in the hobby for a long time.

Located in NJ and just wanted to say hi to all the members and I appreciate everyone's advice and patience with helping myself and fellow noobies.

Best advice I can give you is to browse all the various subforums and read, read, read. Also if you are setting up a tank make a thread for it I've found that all the members are helpful and patient with answering questions.

GL and welcome to the addiction, I mean hobby.

Hey guys,

My name is Chris. I am 23yrs old. I have about 2yrs experience in freshwater. I currently have a 50g tall show tank. It is currently stocked with bala sharks and catfish. I was going for a lake theme. I plan on selling my current tank and getting a nice 125g long tank for a reef. My aunt just set up a 29g reef tank with a refugium/protein skimmer and a rena xp1. She has had nothing but bad luck. I have been reading this forum the last week or so and have learned a lot. I plan on taking things very slow and making sure everything is perfect. I cannot afford to just set up a tank and add livestock only to give them a death sentence. I wanna plan things out and do it right. I hope to learn a lot more on this site. Thank you for jam packing this site with info, cause people like me need it.

hello everyone! my wonderful husband just bought me a 95 gallon fish tank as an early xmas present:love2:. i asked him for a fish tank expecting the usual 5-10 gallon tank and he brought me this 6 foot high 95gal tank he bought from a friend who is a member here. we have absolutely no experience with salt water fish tanks so we will have a lot of questions in the near future after the holidays are over.
