If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi all, my name is Clint and I'm new to the forums here, and relatively new to the hobby. Got a 28g bicube for the wife for her birthday about 9 months ago as she had heard about reefing from a friend. Soon after I got roped into it with her and here I am.

We're still on our biocube, but finding that we're itching for more room to spread everything out. So, plans in the nearish future of building our own acrylic tank after we've put a bit more research in to everything. (One step at a time while we're just wanting to run.)

Happy holidays one and all:beer:

Happy holidays to you as well. It sounds like you have been bitten by the bug as well. :D
If you want to learn more about building an acrylic tank, go check out the DIY forum there are tons of experienced personnel over there that knows the ins and outs. one can learn a lot over in that forum.

I missed this thread originally.

I just got my first tank up and running and posted a build thread, a 65g tall that I intend on being a mixed reef tank. I'm from Minnesota and am fortunate enough to have an awesome club locally that supports new aquarists like myself, TCMAS. Currently patiently waiting for the cycle to do its thing.

Getting back into the game

Getting back into the game

Hello All,

My name is Jay. I had a FOWLR about a decade or so ago. I want to get back in the game with a FOWLR. I've been lurking on many forums and attempting to absorb as much information as possible. I believe that I've over loaded my brain with information on marine aquariums. That being said, I think I'm more lost than ever. I will probably be posting numerous questions but searching the forums as not to duplicate questions. Just wanted to stop in and say hello.

Hello

Hello

Hey there, new guy aboard. The name is Tristan and I hail from the bay area. Currently a full time college student going for a bachelor's degree in Biology and will see where I want to go from there (maybe medical).

I have a 80gal mixed reef that I started back in May of 2008 that has 8 T-5's and a surge system installed which provides all the water movement and enough air for a tank easily 4 times as big. For about 9 or so months I have been a part of my local bay area club NCRC, but plan on logging in here a little more often.

Currently though I am getting out of reef keeping, but I am upgrading to a 180gal (6x2x2') and turning it into a volitan lionfish tank of which will have medium to dark blue lighting on it. I also plan on throwing in a Naso and sailfin tang with the two Volitan's to keep the tank interesting. I also plan to have a few basic corals such as White pom pom, regular anthelia, and maybe some green star polyps if they make it in the lower light (may need to put them near the top of the tank). I might also add some gorgonians, but not sure on that.

Although I'm getting out of reef keeping for a while, I couldn't help but to have at least a couple of easy corals at the least (Coral withdrawls!:fun5:)

The idea started out a as lionfish tank, but then over the last month it has mutated into a semi-deep reef tank. I mean semi by the fact that not everything in a deep reef setting will be present, only the things that can't be eaten by the lions!

I will start a tank thread on it once things really start to get going. But as a small teaser for now, I need to completely rebuild the stand using a steel frame with stained wood as a "shell" to hide the refugiums I will have underneath the tank.

I think reefkeeping has the same motto as the Mafia---you can never quit it :bounce3::bounce3:

Dosing

Dosing

thank you for your reply, now i have to ask also, when you use dosing pumps or an air dosing set up and the bottles set thier how do they get shaken up so all of the good stuff will not come out first, on an air set up you would think the air would shake it up but the pressure will not allow this to happen, but an auto doser air will move all the good stuff around and thier for all the good stuff will not go in to your tank all at once, on DIY dosing they show how to build a dosing set up, but it dose not show you or tell you about shaking up the bottles

Out of the closet

Out of the closet

Hello, my name is Gary. I'm 54 years old, married with chidren. I've been watching RC for several years but only registered in july of this year. My only past experience in the aquarium hobby was small freshwater tanks when my kids were younger. Reef aquariums have always facsinated me and I recently traded a job I did for a friend for a 100 gl. setup he had stored in his garage. I have built a stand for it, bought a protein skimmer and R/O D/I filter, and I'm about to start fabricating a sump/refuge with the acrylic I purchased recently. That's about it. I probably won't post very often because I'm not worth a c**p with a keyboard or a computer. I don't even know if I'm in the right place to post this. Anyway, I've bored you enough so I'll leave it at this for now and say thanks to everyone who contributes their knowledge and experience for novice gomers like me.

Thnak You!

Not new, just getting back in after a few year hiatus. Used to have a 160 gal LPS, cycling a 75 right now. Not sure what direction I'm going in yet (as usual).
