Dan,
LED lighting are still in its infant stages and the jury is still out on if they benefit SPS corals. The concept is great but I have to wait for more data before I dump $800 on a DIY project like that.

Fair enough, but going the DIY route will save me $$, as an alternative I may go with T5's but not MH....

Rose Anenome shrunk up and doesn't look good

Rose Anenome shrunk up and doesn't look good

Hi,

We are new to the hobby - have had a 100 gallon tank for about 2 months - bought a rose anenome about a month ago, and over the past two weeks it has shrunk up considerably (doesn't look bright, and looks about 1/4 of the size it was). It moved around alot the first two weeks, now it in top/back of tank. Any ideas how to make it healthier? Water temp is 80...

have you read up on what RBTA's need as far as water quality and lighting? They need stable and pristine water and really good lighting. I think putting an anemone in a 1 month old tank sealed its fate you have to have the tank matured at least for 6 months before you attempt one of those. If it's still alive I would attempt to find someone that can take him off your hands and nurse him back to health and then get him back when your tank can accommodate him.

I agree with sister that is should not have been put in there in the first place unless you know what you are doing.

However are you performing weekly or bimonthly water changes and are you measuring the alk, magnesium and calcium

What kind of lighting do you have

Hello everybody!

I introduce myself! I am 25 and I'm French!:rollface: So, sorry for my english :lmao:. I Hope you will understand me.

I have a 500 L (130G) reef tank.

There are a lot of french forums, but not too complete about equipment like lumenbright or ecotech pump...

I can't keep new fish alive!

I can't keep new fish alive!

Hello, I have a 3 year old tank with corals and fish. All fish and coral are at least 2 yrs in tank. Its a 65gal saltwater setup with a 17 gal refugium, skimmer and heater in sump. 0 nitrates 0 nitrites 0 ammonia specific gravity 1.024 ph 8.2. I have what I think is called zennia (about 9" tall) and a leather that looks like a mushroom (about a 4" trunk and about 10" dia. top) The fish are a 2" bi color angel, 2" blue damsel, 2.5" marroon clown, 3" coral beauty. There are lots of live rock with purple coraline covering the rocks and glass surfaces(except front glass). I had a 5" yellow tang that died after having been in my tank for over 2 yrs. Ever since, I have tried to replace the tang every month or so for the last 6 months with no success. The fish generally hides behind the rocks and dies within about 4 days. I've tried yellow, powder blue, sailfin, atlantic blue. I really miss having a tang. HELP!

Are the tangs dying because of ich? You could have a situation where the existing fish in your tank have built up an immunity to ich but are still carrying a very low amount of the parasite.
Powder blue, sailfin and atlantic blue tangs get ich very easily.

Have you tried adding another species to the tank other than a tang?

BTW
powder blue, sailfin and atlantic tangs are poor choices for a 65 gal as they quickly will out grow the tank. They are open swimmers and need alot of room for their long term success.
Also you are taking a chance with more than one dwarf angel in your tank as they can be quite territorial and very agressive towards another.

I wanted to stop and say hi..

I've been into fishkeeping for about 20 years. I have breed fish till I couldn't pay the electricbill.
I currently run a couple of FW tanks, both planted.
I just started my first marine system. It has been running for about 2 weeks or so. I just added rock to it last Wednesday so thats when my calender started.

restacked20.jpg

It looks basicly like this. I have restacked the rocks a little. I peeled off some aptasia and made it a little flatter across the top.

I'll post pictures of it again.

My water is good, I guess. Nitrate is higher than I can get in my planted tank, but what I expect for a cycling tank.

Anyway, thanks for sharing all the information I've been scraping up from all of you.
