If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

I haven't ruled out maroons, just been observing them. I have also been watching the black and white ocellaris clowns, cinnamon and tomato clowns. What do you know about them hosting a Green LTA? I believe the maroons host them well. What about the others? I am just researching them all before deciding. The black and whites are beautiful? How aggressive are they and how hard to keep?
Looks like a nice tank! Its gonna be a shame to tear it down.

I set my tank up downstairs in the basement that we finished out. Keeping the downstairs heated comfortably for us has been too expensive this winter so i don't get to stay down there very much. I wish I had set it up on the upper level. (sigh). I wouldn't know how to move it upstairs without completely taking it apart. If I am going to take it apart, I might as well upgrade. If I sell it i can recoop some of the cost in the upgrade. I haven't put in a sump yet because I have been torn about upgrading. I just really miss being able to have more fish.
I used to keep Tiger Oscars. I loved them. They were so interactive with me. They would eat from my hand and let me pet them. They followed me when I walked across the room and would wag their tail fins at me. They hated my husband. They would charge the tank at him and refuse to eat in their care if i had to leave town. They would lay on the bottom of the tank like they were dying and the perk up when I came home. Silly fish.
The clowns remind me a bit of them because they follow you back and forth and will touch your hands in the tank. But they are very tiny. I want to be able to have a few big fish:)

Hey guys and gals,
My name is Brian and Im from central Missouri. My wife and I have a 90 gal reef thats about a year old. I bought it off of a friend that had it set up for about 4 years along with about 6 other tanks. He was downsizing so I jumped on the deal. He had it as a fowlr with about 30lbs of LR, 2 yellow tangs "both had fin rot", a Naso that was about 6" and a tomato clown. That was then, now we have about 85-90lbs of LR, a leather coral, purple mushrooms, and a star polyp with Bozo the tomato clown and single chromi. About 5 months ago we lost the two yellow tangs and naso to Ich, it came out of nowhere. Now we are clearing our tank of Ich with Bozo and the chromi in QT. Right now we will be adding some more LR and a few corals to color up the tank.

New to marine tanks

New to marine tanks

Hi Everyone,
My name is Angela. I'm new to the group, and new to marine life.
I currently have two goldfish and two beta's.

For Christmas I got a 16 gallon Biorb from my new mother-in-law. She also got me the Marine conversion kit.
I've heard concern about these tanks, but I'm not able to return this gift as our relationship is a new sensitive one, if you know what I mean...

I would like to keep one maybe two clown fish in it, along with a few cleaning shrimp or crab.

Before I get the tank ready to set up and start cycling, I wanted to join this group to learn more about saltwater fish and educate myself as best I can to make my situation work out.

I know that many enthusiasts here will be critical about me keeping this new tank, but if anyone can offer their help and suggestions, I would appreciate it.

My goal is to make this tank work out as best and safe as possible.
I would love your thoughts and educational support!

Angela,
I think that you came to the right place. What you are describing is a simple set-up, I would read the sticky's at the top of this forum. And if you have any further questions you can start a new thread.

finaly ready to get serious

My name is Chris. I have been toying with salt water aquariums for 5-6 years mostly FOWLR. I have tried some corals but with very limited success. I have done some inverts as well. My favorite tank was by far my 72 gal that was a predator tank( Huge lion fish, snowflake eel, puffer, and trigger). In my hayday I had a 178 gal, the 72 gal and a 35 gallon in a 2 bedroom apt. but when I moved I only had room for the 178. then I moved again and had no room for that big of a tank so I traded for a 55 that has been very sparse (AKA 3 fish and 30 lbs rock) I finally decided to get serious last week and upgraded to a 110 complete with new t-5 lighting and a new filter set up. hoping to start populating with some inverts and some corals. I am sure I will screw it up a few times along the way (I always do) but my wife and I are looking forward to a long fun journey. Thanks in advance for all the help I am sure I will get

The best way to combat screwing up is to research what you're doing prior to doing it. Good luck with your reef tank, hope to see a build thread started by you soon.

We've had a 55 gallon salt water tank going since September. We have about 100 lbs of live rock, two ocellaris, one anthias, a cleaner shrimp, macro algae, some soft corals and a bunch of cleaning crew. The whole family enjoys the tank. A month or so ago I bought used 150 gallon tank. I'm going to build a cabinet and hood for it and use the 55 gallon as a sump. I've been doing some research and I'll post a build thread soon.

I too have a family that shares in the hobby, It's definitely priceless for the whole family to share a common interest.

That is going to be a nice set up, please document your progress and share it with the folks here on RC
