Whats going on ReeF CenTraL... New To This So If I Could Get Some Help Would Apprieate It..
How Ya Doin'???
Had my first 10 gal appx. 1968..marine fowler appx. 1982 (built my first protein skimmer then from 3" PVC, 1 1/2" Pvc and a cool whip container to collect skimmate. air stone in the bottom of 4 ft of the 3" with the water pumping from top to bottom. Any way the heater stuck on and carnage prevailed. Thus ended fish in the eighties. Kept my 75 and 32. Feb 2009 up went the 75 and found the hobby went from the prop age to the jet age. Tank is going good with the new technology except my old 25 yr tank has no center support. Support came w/ tank glass cover and inserted after water in and glass spread from the water pressure. Old lights not good so got the mh/pc/led in one (4ft). Bought a blonde tang and then read about him...Hmmmmmmmm125 gal tank minimum........Hmmmmm Get a 180:thumbsup:. 180 up in July 09. Oct/Nov Piped the 180 and 75 together with a 22 gal refug macro algae on shelf behind 180 w/ siphon and pump back to 180. 75 pumps to 180 and Eshopps 1200 gal overflow return. Two months ago I bought my fisrt coral. A Kenya Tree doing great. Now have button polyps, torch coral, frogspawn, galaxia, cabbage, green star polyps and 7 shrooms. Trying to figure out best way to supplement and will post in forum. :dance:Thanx All PS-cagey is my initials KG
hey RC! I'm, contemplating a reef setup in the near future. i have moderate experience in planted aquariums and have a 10g with very prolific RCS & 40g planted w/ pressurized co2. those are both doing great, so i think it may be time for a new challenge.
i read through all the newbie corner articles last night >.< they are such a great help, thank you waterkeeper! i will most likely be reading and asking questions for a while before i start collecting my setup.
Hey Guys!
I'm lovin the board so far! There is SO much info here to soak up. I read all the Newbie Corner articles and man... what a great resource.
I've kept fairly small Freshwater cichlid tanks for many years now with setups ranging from 10-60 gallon aquariums. I've always wanted to get in to reef keeping as I have a few friends that have amazing setups.
I have an opportunity coming up that'll allow me to enter into the world of Salt Water and I am very excited!.
My goal is to ensure that it's done correctly from the start.
I think I found a great resource with this message board and along with help for some experienced friends I hope to have a future Tank of the Month!![]()
Hey guys, Im brand new to saltwater also... Just bought a 155 Gallon bow front so i definetly have allot of reading up to do.. lol

Whats up RC! I'm also new to this forum but been reefing for about 11yrs now, I have a local forum that I frequent and love and its called Manhattanreefs.com. I use to have a 180g mixed reef but I moved into a smaller place so now I have a 24g JBJ nano cube with current 250w sunpod. I have a green BTA and LPS (I'm an acan nut!) and I have a pair of true percs and a pair of black False Percula's and yea they get along great even in such a small tank, guess I got lucky. Anyway just wanted to say hello and great site you guys/gals have!

Any idea of what size of tank you are going to start with?
I have a number of the 24g JBJ's. Can you post a picture of how you have setup your cube with the 250 watt sunpod?

I'll be starting off with 90 Gallon which is currently not drilled. I definitely what to have a sump and possibly a fuge so I think getting the tank drilled and fitted with an overflow with be one of the first things on my to-do list.![]()
I'd be happy to. I just gotta wait for the GF to bring the camera over, hopefully tomorrow.
Hey my name is henry. New to this hobby just switch from fresh to saltwater tank.I got my first freshwatertank when i was 10 years old.Just switch to saltwater 2 1/2 years ago. It's started when i visit one of the saltwater store here in our place.......And it's a big wow when i see all those colorfull fish and corals....my reef tank right now is undrilled 90 gal.thank
great, I'll look forward to seeing them:thumbsup:
Awesome---thanks for posting.
So what have you done for the filtration system at the back of the cube---do you still have that covered?
Thanks capn! All I have in the back of the tank is a bag of Chemi-pure elite which I change out every 2 weeks, heater and maxi jet 1200 with hydor flow. I want to add some macro algae but I'm currently trying to find a good light setup to grow it, do you have any suggestions? My filtration is just live rock in the display are (about 30lbs) and my sand bed, so far all my levels are great but for the life of me I can't get my nitrate lower then 5ppm even with 5gal weekly water changes.
