If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi everyone! I'm Shayne (Negative). I'm from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm new to the hobby and I'm currently building a 90 gallon reef tank. I'm a couple months into the project and I still haven't even added water yet. I'm just taking my time so get it done right, and it makes it easier to enjoy the process.
for sure you have to exercise patience for long term success in this hobby

Hello everyone. Shawn from Dallas, TX. New to the hobby and building a 75 gallon reef. Bought the 75 gallon standard (no overflow). Any suggestions on equipment need to have a successful setup would be warmly welcomed. I have the tank and (2) Koralia Evos rated at 1050 gph and have been considering the Deltec MCE600 skimmer and Currant Nova Pro Extreme T-5 lighting system. Again, any suggestions on equipment or setup would help.

Thanks.

I would drill the side of the tank and put in an internal overflow and return bulkhead along with loc lines.

Hey, The name is Blase. I'm very new to reefs and saltwater as a whole. I have helped with quite a few 200+ freshwater setups(amazonian) and currently work in a lab dealing with xyphophorous aka swordtails. I have wanted a reef setup for quite some time; and have read quite a bit of WK's posts. The girlfriend just bought me a 29 gallon Oceanic Biocube and figured it was a great place for me to start in the apartment. She's a pretty rockin girlfriend

New to the Hobby -

Hello All,

My name is Todd and I live in Temecula CA which is just north of SD. I have been reading a lot on RC for the last year and have finally made my purchase.

I purchased a 60 gal Solana XL and love the look. I added a little rock (20 lbs) and bagged sand and want to take this really slow at first.

While setting up, I realized just how much I did not know. Any or all advice is appreciated and want to post photos as I get started.

What I am hoping for is help along the way based on my photos and questions.

First question first - I do not want to harm any livestock (don't have any yet) and will be adding more rock when I find the right pieces, should I add all live rock at first or can I piece it together while the tank is cycling.

Thanks,

Todd

Newbie to RC and hobby

Hello,
my name is Dave, my wife and I are new to hobby about 3 months now, and heard about RC thru friends from another site :)

hello

hello

Hi. My name is Josh. My roommate rekindled my interest in fish a couple months ago. I have a 75 gallon FOWLR, which houses a Panther Grouper and Fimbriated Eel. I recently bought a 300 gallon because I wanted to keep Cat Sharks, but after doing some reading I learned that it is not a suitable tank for a long comfortable life for the shark. So I am going to take my time putting it together and probably keep a Miniatus Grouper, Clown Trigger, and some corals.

If you can afford all the live rock at once then put it in now, if not you run the risk of a mini cycle every time you add more rock. As for starting the cycle and not subjecting any livestock to ammonia what many of us do is toss in an uncooked, unseasoned frozen shrimp from the supermarket to the tank and allow it to decompose to start that cycle. Monitor the ammonia and watch it rise and fall as well as nitrite and then you'll now the cycle has ended.

You know, a 300 would make for an awsome reef tank..... just saying..... ;)

Hi everyone. I was recently referred here. I am very new to the saltwater world and i have alot to learn. I currently have a 55 gallon that i changed from freshwater to saltwater. Im currently cycling and still trying to find more live rock. Im in no hurry to get fish until everything is setup and i am more knowledgeable about what im doing. I tend to learn more from videos than reading. I cant find many videos but im always looking. thank you for allowing me to be here.

When I read you prefer videos over reading I had to look to see if you lived in California, I guess you broke the stereotype. I blame the schools"¦..Look on youtube for videos. There are also a lot of great build threads with out there packed full of pictures that may help you learn.
