If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi

Hi

My name is Kelly and I have a 20gal reef tank I have had up since December. I started the tank for my 3 year old but I think I have gotten more enjoyment out of it than he has. I am an electrician by trade, electrical engineer by degree, and an I&E Tech by profession.

I am always looking to network local reefers together. I like the ability to help and trade.

How would I search for people in SanAngelo TX?

I have 14 gallon nano,

im trying to share my tank here

Nice to meet you all

Hey all, my name is Kurt. Been one of those crazy people who have always enjoyed other peoples salt water tanks but never bothered. Recently, moved house and in the process sold off my fresh water fish and have decided to go salt.

Working on setting up my 90gal reef tank first. If all goes well over the next year or so, I plan to then get the 200gallon and/or the 460gallon tank going as well.

Used to keep everything from fresh water sting rays, discus, african cichlids, arowana and everything in between.

Hope to learn something from you all and share anything I learn along the way.

Hi all (again)

Hi all (again)

Hi all. I suppose the polite thing to have done would have been to do this bit first but I had to jump straight in with a HELP post first :headwally: and thanks to all who answered. Anyway to save time I think I covered my intro and much more in my first post: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2508316

Again apologies for not starting off here and please be ready to be bombarded with questions

Hello Reef Central. I just signed up and plan to start acquiring my gear in just over a year. I will be spending the next long 12+ months studying up on the hobby. Thank you for offering this wonderful resource.

Glass tank worries me!!

Glass tank worries me!!

I am new to Salt tanks and was wondering if I need to support the bottom glass so it won't break with the live rocks? I have a 75 gal tank with thick glass.

New to SW

New to SW

Just starting into SW and maintaining several FW tanks. I just bought my tank (75g w/ drilled overflow) and have a 40g breeder that I plan to use as a sump. I have nothing else salt/reef related at this time. I'm on a budget so I just want to make good equipment purchases and not rush. The first pieces of equipment I trying to get, based on the advice of a very experienced and awesome reef keeper, is an RODI unit and Protein Skimmer.

Thanks again for the great post I've been reading.

hello all. new to hobby less then a year

I'm new to saltwater tanks and reefing. Looking for all the knowledge I can so my system can thrive. I have a 60gal cube with about 40 to 50lbs of live rock and 60lbs of live sand. as far as corals go I Currently I have a Duncan coral, electric green torch (which is declining), long tentacle leather, orange finger sponge, green star polyp coral, fruit loop zoa, purple zoa, and Purple mushroom. Zoa'a are growing but haven't opened since I put them in the tank about a month ago. CUC consist of about 20 hermit crabs. 1 zebra turbo snail left out of 9, serpent starfish, brittle starfish, 6 nassarius snails, 10 zebra snails, 12 cerith snails. Also have a pistol shrimp, yellow watchman goby, yellow tail damsel, clown fish, 2 harlequin shrimp, long tentacle anemone, Atlantic blue tang, 2 barred zebra gobies, 3 firefish gobies, Starry blenny and a Springers Dotty back.

hi guys,
im totally new to marine tanks, ive had a fresh water tank for 5 years now and want to go a step further, need guidence on basically everything.Have been reading and watching alot of youtube and to be honest it looks scary.

Hello all.

Hello all.

My name is Brian. I am new to the site an a novice reef tank owner. I am currently setting up a 110 gallon reef tank and wanted some advise on the fish, coral and inverts to house in the tank once it is completely setup and cycled. I have done some research and have a few thoughts. First let me describe the setup I am building.

SPECS:

110 gallon extra high tank - 48x18x30
20 - 30 gallon promaxx RS Sump
3 c-breeze air blowers
2 ACAN LED lights
100 lbs - Caribsea Aragonite
100 lbs - Fiji Live rock

I am not really sure how many fish and inverts to get for the tank. I have read that the rule of thumb for fish is one inch of fish for every five gallons of tanks. I have listed some fish that I think would get along okay and not hurt whatever coral I choose.

Fish:

Black Cap Basslet
Royal Gramma Basslet
Horned Blenny (mated pair if possible)
Maroon Clown
Fire Goby
Green Mandarin
Yellow tang
Dragonface Pipe fish
Seahorse (Kuda)

Inverts:

Tube Anemone
Halloween Hermit Crab
Aeropora Crab
Porcelain Crab
Electric Blue Hermit Crab
Feather Duster
Snapping Shrimp, Red Banded
Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Bumble Bee Snails
Mexican Turbo Snails

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea what I'm doing with getting a new tank. SOS HELPPPPP!! I need assistance in general information on aquariums.

New here

New here

Hey all,
My name's Arsalan, I'm in Boston MA, and I'm in the process of cycling my first salt water setup. I've had many fresh water tanks since childhood but I'm new to the marine tanks.
I recently got a used setup on craigslist that I'll be using for a reef tank:
-75G drilled with corner overflow
-stand and hood canopy, glass covers
-dual t8/t12 light
-amiracle sump/trickle filter/bio balls
-in sump protein skimmer
-custom made additional refugium that's plumbed to the sump / pump
-4" crushed coral sand bed
-instant ocean salt mix

I've been reading a lot about this and I know I still need to get a few things before i start bringing home some live stock and frags..

-I'm ordering a 400w heater today
-I'll be looking into getting a better light setup, recommendations on that will be appreciated
-looking into wavemakers, not sure what brand to go with.. I've been reading the Jebo's with the controller are decent for the price, but i could use some input on that.
-I also don't know if i need a RO/DI.. i know they're recommended but i'm pretty sure my local tap water isn't too hard and no one seems to be having issues with it.. input on that will be appreciated as well.

Also, please feel free to let me know of any tips that might help my success.
thanks in advance!! :wavehand:

Hi!My name is George.I am from Greece and my English are not very good.I am an owner of a 25 g. reef tank and I am going to upgrade to 60 gallons with sump-refugium 20 gallons. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I am getting back into reef keeping after taking about 8 months off. I started a 10 gallon reef tank about 2 years ago and kept it going pretty well for about a year. When I left for college I moved everything to a 15 gallon tank and brought it with me on campus. After the system crashed when my RA unplugged my tank over fall break, I decided to take the tank down. I moved everything that survived to my dads 150 gallon tank. Now I am getting plans together to set up a 30 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump.

Hey guys Im new to the hobby and wanted to say I am already addicted. I have had a 40g tank for about 6 months now and just bought at 50g cube from SCaquariums. I can't wait to set it up!
