It's just another 40 Breeder thread

Nice! I have a couple more holes in the back of my 40B :)

Similar to yours kinda. Center overflow with 1" drain and two 3/4" returns. The 1" lower pipe is a closed loop with 3/4" returns running through a SCWD. I just moved the tank from work to my house and I will set up a thread when I get it going again. Might be a bit as I need to put baffles in the 40 breeder that will be the sump.

***Update***

So Wednesday, I had a small ammonia spike. Waited a few days and tested it Saturday morning. And I have no ammonia or nitrites. I went to pick up some snails from a local shop.

I made a screen top also to stop jumpers to go surfing. I am going to order a clear mesh but this will work for the time being since there wont be any corals in it for a bit

I had my first fish waiting for his home while he was in quarantine. I decided to go ahead and drop him in as the cycle should have passed. He has been doing great for the past two days. Also picked up a Fire Shrimp, but he decided he isnt ready to come out of hiding yet. Its video so youll have to click on it to view. I couldnt figure out how to embed it in to the thread.

And yesterday we had a meet for my local club. It was a huge meet and they had a raffle. I wound up winning a BRS reactor with MJ 1200. Pretty awesome.

Great score!! What will you run in the reactor?

Super slow on adding the livestock now? Picture of your fish? :)

I plan on running gfo as this will be primarily a SPS tank.

The bottom pic is a link to my video.

I will be going slow. I have one coming in maybe this week that I will quarantine before putting him in. I put my Ruby Head Wrasse in and hours later I checked for ammonia, but still zero and checked the next morning too. No ammonia or nitrites.

It looks awesome!! And it is really coming along! To me it looks like you are definitely finished with your cycle, and it seems like it with those test results. This is going to be an awesome tank, I know it!

Thanks bro.

Well a small update, I have been just letting it run for the past month. Everyone seems to be doing well. No clean crew died. My fire shrimp is finally not being so shy so I get to see him come out. Wrasse is loving it. And always looks at me like "feed me".

I picked up a Starry blenny last friday. He is sitting in QT.

I have some cyano growing on a rock but Im letting the tank mature itself so I can transfer over corals from my Biocube that were intended for this tank. Ill replace the bulbs next month. It should be ready at that point.

***UPDATE***

Seems to have a small issue with phos in my tank. I havent been able to order more regeant for my Hanna Phos Checker as they have been sold out on BRS from sometime. But Im having a big cyano breakout. Or is this normal? I dont think the flow is my problem. But I did a water change and sucked majority of the cyano out of the tank or what I could see.

Also picked up a red scooter yesterday. Not sure how well he will do. The guy that ordered him, got a really small one. Im hoping he will take some food. Im going to try some spot feeding. Hopefully I can get him trained on prepared foods like i did with my other scooter. But my fear is he seems very very scared. Im sure he is after being transferred from distributor, to business man to my tank.

My starry blenny seems to be doing great. Been in QT for 2 months now. No signs of disease. And seems pretty happy and eating well.

Ill try to post some pics tonight.

when using filler around wet areas its best to use kitty hair. which is short or long stranded polyester compound. its tough to sand but reisists popping out like bondo (which is a trade name) or filler would do...

let me know if you need any of the powder for the hanna phosphate tester i can send you a few. i got 100 of them free when the ppl messed up on my order..

Well its about time for an update. Its been about a month. Just getting everything on the tank tuned in and some time for maturing. I have a bit of a cyano problem but its due to the bulbs which I should be ordering new ones tomorrow. I had checked phos which is at 0 so thats not an issue. And Im not running and GFO at this moment. Its doing good for about 2 months old now

Unfortunately my red scooter didnt make it. Look likes he may have had an ick outbreak and thats why its been on hold as I make sure neither of these fish have ick. But they look clear and plan on adding my Starry blenny next week

looks great. sorry to hear about the scooter :(

i noticed you have wonderful coraline growth already. What is your tank temp and also how much live rock/sand did you add at the beginning?

I had put a piece of rock from my other tank that was small but was covered completely in coralline to get it going.

My tank is at 80 degrees and never changes. I have about 60 lbs of sand and 55 lbs or so of live rock.
