It's just another 40 Breeder thread

I like your stand, what are the dimensions of it? Also, is that a 29 gallon tank that your using for the sump? Looks great so far ! Make sure you get some extra pods for the target mandarin.

Thank you.

Im not sure on the dimensions of the stand but its about 40 wide and 36 tall.

I havent made an update on the tank but have been meaning too. Unfortunately my mandarin didnt make the transfer. He refused to eat. This is proof just cause you see an ORA mandarin in the store eating prepared foods, doesnt mean they will eat once you get them home.

***Update***

So some cool things are starting to happen. All my inhabitants are happy and doing well. My clowns look like they are loving the new living space and I have a feeling they are the king and queen of the tank. They are all over the place. And dont let me come up to the tank cause they stay right in my face lol.

All the shrimp have found a home and no one is fighting, which was a concern. My fire shrimp and cleaner are on opposite ends and my peppermint has his hole, but he comes out at night to clean.

My scooter blenny seems to have plenty to eat and he is keeping the sand nice and white. My starry blenny has grown some interest in him. So he has developed a habit of eat off the sand like my scooter.

Also my starry has also developed a new relationship. He allows my fire shrimp to climb on top of him and clean him in one of his perching spots.

Alot of stuff I wanna take pics of but when it happens I forget about the camera and just want to watch.

But I have picked up some new coral. First one is a nice size ORA Green Milli. Its a nice size colony

Also got some purple and green trumpets

Tank is running great. Having a little bit of hair algae. So I started up my BRS reactor with some XtraPhosX. Stuff worked well for me before so Im sure it will again.

Nice pictures! I'm glad to hear things are going well.

What is your current fish list, and are they all doing well? I'm trying to decide on some more fish...

Currently my stocklist is:

True Perc and Black Occ Clown Pair
Scooter Blenny
Starry Blenny
Rudy Head wrasse

Ive been thinking of what to add....but not sure. A couple Ive considered are Blue Assessor or a dottyback, Yellow Clown Goby, maybe another fairy wrasse, or try for another anthia.

i just saw the post on the chromis. i had some orange strip chromis. the LFS said they are like the green chromis but it is not. I have a 150 gallon tank and i had 5 chromis. Each grew to 4.5 inches. and they turn black and lost it strips. they bullied and killed everything that was introduced afterward. ended up tearing all of the reef tank to get those chromis out.

love your pic and keep the the wonderful work

Another wrasse would be fun. The clown goby, as you know, might bother smaller sps considerably. I'd like to get a small red mandarin from ORA. I saw one in a big soft coral display yesterday, and thought it was beautiful. I have no competitors for pods right now (like wrasses), so it might work out.

Yes another wrasse would be nice but Im not sure if the one I have will fight or not. He seems pretty docile. But I cant find much info on this particular type I have now.

Yea Im not going to try a mandarin for this tank.

Ok new update hehe. Been having a bit of an algae outbreak and been running my BRS reactor with Brghtwells, ExtraXPhos and its been working out well or so it seems to be getting some of the algae down.

Also aquiring some corals, all zoas to fill in some of the lower areas of the tank.

Well here is a current tank shot with all lights and one with only actinics

Unfortunately after a water change, 2 of my pieces starting losing color. Im guessing t was the alk was dropped quite a bit during the water change. It went from 9 to 7. So Im working on making a more stable alk and color those gus back up. Also starting using Oyster Feast to see how that works out for feeding.

Now here comes the fun part of my thread. I have been contemplating my next fish. After much research, I decided on one. I think I migt hear it for this one. It is also going to be my final fish also. Iwas at the store and they had 2 Kole tangs....omg. One was more active is less shy. So I bought that one. I know bad me. Have had him in QT for 3 days now and is eating everything. The QT has no algae left in it. Lol. I dont think Ive ever seen the tank this clean lol.

And I bought him after much consideration. Well even if he doesnt work out, I have a large local club that someone on there would be more than happy to have him for a discount. But thought Id give it a shot.

Koles in general are pretty passive but in a tank that small he may become very aggressive as he matures. I'd have another home arranged for him ahead of time just in case.

Yes, I have a backup plan in case he doesnt work out. I guess I wanted to try it. But I wouldnt have if I didnt have my local club. Ive never had any livestock on there that didnt sell within a week. So if it doesnt work, he can have a new home in a week.

He is already about 4 inches so we shall see. And thanks for being so polite lol. I was expecting something alot worse haha

Good luck with the Kole tang.

Mine was thick, healthy and would not eat for weeks. I tried everything!!!!

I broke down and got a yellow tang to show him how to eat from a noori clip. Mission accomplished. :)

He is eating flakes, as long as he doesnt see me watching him lol

Dude love ur tank! I wish I would of gone with a 40 breeder

Dude, thank you lol. I really appreciate it. I also love the depth of a 40 breeder without having to go with a 75 or 90. I remember when I had FW tanks and I bought a ornament to put in my 55 and when I got home found out it barely fit. lol. So I guess that taught me a lesson in depth of tanks.

I love my tank. But it does have a few issues. One thing is my acros arent growing all that much. And 2 pieces have bleached out but still have tissue on it. With very slight coloring. Been fighting a hair algae problem, but I feel once my tang is in there he might help with that problem. But my birdsnest seem to have no problem growing. Any thoughts on the growth of my SPS??

My rainbow BTA Im feeding with some mysis and he seems to be getting bigger...yay. I want to get him big enough so my clowns can host him.

I was going to shoot for 7-8 fish but I guess Ill stick with my 6 fish. :fish1:
