Cool!!! But one ? Why do they use that pendant around the bulb if it's just to hold it?
I think it would be better in track type lighting fixtures, aesthetically speaking.

Amazing tanks. Thanks for the pics. Those Japanese people are a bit obsessed with their lighting. Of all the Japanese tanks I've seen posted in this thread and others I don't think I saw a single canopy. Having all of those lights exposed is a real eyesore, IMO.

BTW, does anyone know what this coral is?

Or how about the one in the bottom middle of this pic?

I would love to get my hands on either one.:)

Maybe an A. Elegans or A. Pichoni? Been trying to get my hands on an Elegans. They color up really nice in captivity. At least from this one guys tank?...

Anybody notice that in all the japanese tank pics there is no background. The is no coralline algea on the back. Its just a see-through box.

Very interesting as I think most of us run the back covered in corralline, and some of us run our sides covered in coralline.

Mike

Yes this is the way Japanese run their tanks. Coralline is a no no. That is why they keep their Ca very low to prevent crazy growth of coralline. A lot of us here are the same way here. We dotn like a tank full of coralline as it takes away from the color of the corals. They blend in. I never was a fan of coralline all over the glass/walls. There's a handful of people on here and maybe some I dont know about that follow this clean/organized look.

How low do you have to keep calcium to prevent coralline. Then if calcium is low wont that effect the SPS???

Mike

Yes/No. natural reefs are at 380-400. German and Japanese follow natural reef levels. When I changed from 450 to 410 Ca, it made a huge difference in Coralline growth. i rarely scrape it off now. Another factor is your salinity level. The lower, the less. Shouldnt be less than 1.023 IMO.

Thats what I follow as well.. about 400... I don't understand the people who run 500+. It just does not make any sence to me :). Even with these levels and a salinity of 1.026 my back wall is covered in coraline.

Initially when I set my tank up I wanted to keep it clean but it was WAY to much work, in my 90. Maybe with larger tanks that you can walk behind its easier, but most of us stack rocks and corals on the back, which makes it almost impossible to clean the back wall.

hello everyone,
those tanks are awesome.
does anyone know of a site that sells shrimp like those.
also Invincible do you have a photo of some of the filtration they are using?
thanks and i await your reply

I'm still waiting for someone that knows what type of equipment the japs are using.I'm sure it takes a little more than just bulbs to keep SPS thriving in a close systems.

VINA

Vina,

They use the same type of equipment we use except for the lighting and some things here and there. For example, most of the tanks I posted use Pro Cal Ca reactors.

Thats one thing they lack. Is the organization of their equipment.

Here's an H&S Skimmer under one tank:

Here's another setup.. Looks like a PM skimmer:
