japanese zoos the next craze?

I was talking at the LFS, and now that the acan craze has settled down, people think that chalices are the next big $$$ getter. I said Japanese zoos. The pics I've seen of them are insane, and so far, I don't see them (nor does my LFS owner's suppliers) readily available in the US.

Opinions?

I've been getting the emails from Roe's and honestly not that impressed. Some were nice but they were hyping a lot that are common colors too.

Agreed. I got one from Roe's and was very disappointed in its coloration compared to their picture.

Hey guys,

I think I found the Japanese zoos, or maybe not. Let me know what you think?

I think these pictures are pretty misleading. The reason I say that is look at how doctored it is. The image is blurred out in most areas except the polyps I don't know if that can really give you an idea of what to expect the zoanthids to look like without giving more of a point of reference for lack of a better word. For instance if you see eggcrate in the background of the picture and its BLUE then you know somebody's been playing with the photo.

Actually no, these are not my pics. I have pendant lights with 400 watt bulbs. My pics are usually ver blue. I'm thinking of buying some of these I just wanted an opinion of what other reefers thought. Are they common or if they are the real deal, would they be worth buying?

The first three pictures are not common at all. They are beautiful. I'd buy them. :D Can't really tell if they are Japanese are not, though.

from what i've been told everything coming for japan is illegal so prices will stay high with these guys for quite some time.

I tried to find a supplier for these a few weeks ago, its not easy. I would not say that they are illegal but the reef is tightly controlled buy the government. As fare as I can tell they are only being sold to HK, Taiwan and Canada at the moment in large numbers.

As for the OP yes I think these will be the next big thing, they have great colours and if the prove easy to keep/frag then the price will go up before it comes back down.

deepwater zoas are starting to pop up in lots of places. Prepare to pay a premium though. on average its about $10 bux a polpy. I got these a few days ago...

these pics were taken just after adding them to my DT.

I've seen some that make my eyes pop out, I think it was 250G's thread. They were obtained in Canada I believe.

Anyway, I see the way the "market" works and it seems like there's a lot of "look what I've got, and you don't have it yet" involved. That drives the price up, hysteria ensues and price goes up further. On top of that, if they're truly spectacularly colored, the price goes into the stratosphere.

I've seen it happen with SPS, Aussie LPS, chalices, and some zoos.

Just wondered what those who actually have had the oportunity to buy them think of them. Seems most have been underwhelmed.
