japanese zoos the next craze?

I went to my LFS to get some, and it was busy. I know the owner very well so I just told him I'd be back and he told me he'd hold em. He soon reported to me, that although they'd opened up quickly, the no sooner closed up again. Within a few days, several of the small colonies had melted. Glad he was busy the day I went to get em.

i have had a completely different experiance from you guys, have received loads & all are in good health & open up, including those held for a while.

I've lost a bunch of colonies already and still having trouble with what's left. I doubt I'd get wild colonies like these again. I'd think its best to wait till someone else gets lucky to start propagating these to tank bred ones to lessen the chances of melting/pox issues.

Those are yours dark stranger? Lets see a pic of them in your tank. Not calling you out or anything, I'd just like to see them doing well in a tank for any period of time over a month.

I currently dont have a display tank, only the coral tanks. Some of those zoa rocks have been in the tank for upto 2 weeks & no signs of pox or melting.

I suspect they would have been harvested about 1month ago & have been in various holding tanks, cargo holds & backs of vans and ultimately reaching mine, therefore I would say they have had their fair share of traveling with no ill effects.

As do all corals, They just don't seem to last much past that time. I've gotten them from 3 locations all with the same results. As have many others. They just don't take to long term survival IMO.

very suceptible to pox, a lot harder to cure pox on these guys. Melting issues as well

+1

All three of my colonies have been showing pox. No pox whatsoever on any of my other 50or so colonies but all 3 of my Japanese have it pretty good. I did the 3 furan dips, waited a week and now today will be the 3rd furan dip of the 2nd round but the colonies still look a little rough.

Done peroxide dips on these guys as well. Pox still holding on. These Deepwaters seem to hold on to pox a lot better than other polyps. They also don't take well to furan as much as other do.

What do you mean 650 about them not taking well to Furan?

Mine open right up and look great about 15-20 minutes after the Furan dip. If i didnt look at them at night when they are closed, i wouldn't even see the pox.

Are yours not opening up good after the Furan dips?

I'm not overly impressed by the majority of these zoos, but this one is killer! If anyone knows where I can pick this morph up shoot me a PM please.

They'll be ok with furan for a while then all the sudden start to melt/decompose or what ever you wanna call it. They don't also heal from pox as fast as regular zoos with furan or even peroxide dips.

Hi all, I'm from Singapore.
Its interesting to see that those Japanese zoa also dun do well
over in US. The funny thing is over in here, the LFS called it as US zoa!!

We also had zoa pox, melt off etc on them but recently I had success in keeping them & also had new polyps growing out from them.

From my experience, I think the 'Japanese' zoa will do well at low flow area.
Would like to share my experience here & hope I can help u guys........
When I got my first 2 frags given to me by my friend, both did not survive due to zoa pox & melt off. BTW, I place both frag at a high flow area.
On my third try, I bought a bigger frag from LFS. I frag out 3 polyps & place them at a low flow area. The rest of the frag I place them at the high flow area.
I also get another frag from my friends again & this time I place them at a low flow area.
And the result is...... the frag at the high flow area got zoa pox & melt off again wherelse nothing happened to the 2 frag at the low flow area & both even had few new polyps grow out from them.
Till now, both frag had been in my tank for almost 3 months.
